The Reading & Leeds festival lineup poster, minus any artists who launched their careers in Grassroots Music Venues.

Today's festival headliners can only sell thousands of tickets because of the essential role played by these venues in their development. Nurtured in grassroots music venues, they built their audiences from tens to hundreds, laying the foundation for their success on the grand stages of festivals like Reading & Leeds.

Next up this Autumn we have the amazing Ellie Gowers at The Star Inn on the 30th of September!!

“Full of delicacy, precision and gentle delight” - The Guardian

Ellie crafts her love of literature and traditional folk song into an emotionally mature catalogue of original material, with references to artists including Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake. Touring her debut album ‘Dwelling by the Weir’ and bringing to the stage a strong voice full of expression and maturity, Ellie’s songs are written with sociological, ecological, and personal themes in mind. These songs at times are sensitive and tender, but are not without the fiery and darker discourse that have labelled Ellie as dynamic and one to watch.

Record Store Day UK Unsigned Competition 18/08/2023

Closing October 16th!

Record Store Day has announced the highly anticipated return of the RSD Unsigned competition, now in partnership with Breed Media, a KEY Production Group company. The nationwide contest is a unique opportunity for one exceptionally talented unsigned artist to have their music pressed onto 500 vinyl records pressed using ‘Bio-Vinyl’ (this uses a new more sustainable but acoustically identical vinyl compound). On top of that, the winner will be invited to a mastering session at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios, supported by RSD official partner Bowers and Wilkins, whose flagship 800 Series loudspeakers have been used as reference monitors in countless iconic recordings at the studios over the past 40 years.

Emerging musicians can enter via the link below, submitting a 2-minute sample of their original work. A panel of music industry experts have also been assembled to judge the competition and listen to the music submitted, these include:

Dan Smith (Lead Singer, Bastille), Eva Davies (Artist & Label Manager, Come Play with Me), Karen Emanuel (CEO, Key Production Group), Martin Black (Record Store Owner, Spinning Discs), Nadia Khan (Women in CTRL Founder)

The Star Inn - The Stayawakes + Rila's Edge + The Gears Distribution

Tix -> https://www.seetickets.com/event/the-stayawakes-rila-s-edge-the-gears-distribution/the-star-inn/2644178

THE STAYAWAKES
Named as an homage to the 1980’s slasher movie genre The Stayawakes are a four piece power-pop ensemble from Southsea on the south coast of the UK. The band was formed by four lifelong friends that have a shared love for melodic hooks paired with loud guitars.

RILAS EDGE
The Berkshire based indie outfit Rila’s Edge has been winning over fans with their anthemic stadium indie rock. Through thousands of hours rehearsing and songwriting, they have nurtured a nostalgic sound that is reminiscent of rock bands of the early 2000s but seen through a modern pop lens. The tracks are set apart by driving, distinctive vocals with comparisons made to early U2, Foals, and The Killers. THIS SATURDAY!

THE GEARS DISTRIBUTION
A British Post Punk/Death Disco inspired 3 piece. Their aggressive, unfiltered, uk accented sound matches their lyrical content from a working class “angry young man” perspective. Their music has elements comparable to the late 70s-80s Post-Punk/New-Wave movement with edgy, disco inspired rhythms and memorable lacerating riffs
