JGK are a Lively, Jumpin, Groove machine. Utilizing the brilliance of Marcello Milanis's distinctive Read a long form bio guide and write……. Do not be arrogant.
So I am supposed to tell you everything about how music is the soul and voice and reason and that’s how I get up in the morning. Start with something catchy, confident but not arrogant. The Giantkillers started in my various back rooms, decks and parties, gigs and festivals that I started going to with my parents around 12 years old. Maleny Folk Festival (now Woodford Folk festival) being one of t
hem. The connection that formed between myself and music was already strong by my early teens, filled by the glory days of Grunge. One local band that stood out for me was a rocking roots outfit called The Toothfaeries. They were a favourite at Woodford through the 90’s. Some years later I end up with their enigmatic front man, Marcello Milani as the bands lead guitarist/Musical director. My first band was off. Quickly after that Dave Atkins ( Resin dogs, WolfMother was on board and playing with us and producing our album). From no band to playing with two Brisbane legends who knew their s**t back the front and still loved the power and beauty of music. That was a great apprenticeship. Putting the diverse sounds of these musicians together has allowed us to create a unique and powerful sound. Rock with Ska tints, the power of Hip Hop drum, Real songs, real melodies, recorded to capture a real moment not a computer interpretation of a voice. Fast forward a couple of years and we are working on our second release. After our first was well received, receiving air play on Triple J, Triple Z and playing major festivals Woodford Folk Festival and Island Vibe. We have played almost every venue in from Yamba to the Sunshine Coast including the Tivoli. This being done with no support, fulltime jobs and kids in the mix. Nice! So you come to one of our shows and you will not forget it. There is more energy on our stage than most. It is about that communication about getting the audience as high as possible. Always asked to return to the venues we have played. Always get a great crowd reaction. It all comes down to the song; Which really means something that has heart, and soul, which really means something that you believe in. We believe in this music. What about that juxtaposition between work hard and be good but then in a glorious mashing of feeling generated by substances and stupefying delight you come up with the greatest lyric you have ever written? Back to the format….. Reveal yourself, connect, Attract, exploit, make space inform the audience. That is what I have to do. Basically get people to listen and give some money so we can keep making music. That is what Iyou could help us do, if your still reading by now. Talk about how when you started you goal was to play at the festival that you had been blissing out at since you were 12. How you did that and nnow you want much much more. About the beauty of music and how it pulled you though s**t times, typified and defined what a truly great night was. Maybe that sounds a bit naff. Luck. I don’t believe in it but it is an interesting factor. How do you end up playing with super talented players in a band that you think is amazing and unique? How can you get someone with pull to give you a shot? I don’t know but I sure would like to.
