KBD (PRE-WILLETT) "KBD" or "Kentucky Bourbon Distiller" operated the former and current Willett Distillery from 1984 until 2012... Prior to 84 the Old Willett Distillery remained dormant since 1976 with barrels continuing to age through the 1980s and 1990s... In 1984 Evan & Martha (Willett) Kulsveen take over the...
17y Barrel Proof Rye distilled early 1980s and bot. Circa ‘99/00… Most sources point to Old Schenley Distilled Rye that Julian Van Winkle found a nice parcel of in the late 90s at the persistent request of Marci P to find some good rye, which even then was not easy, as there was not an endless supply of that juice.
The number 1 VOSN question?
Everyone wants to know - more importantly though is when was it distilled ? These barrel proofs here would have late 70s to mid 80s depending on batch and could have been blended - Both Marci & Even seemed to love their fat aromatic wheaters and there were 2 main sources of which were readily available in the 80s and got progressively more difficult from ‘92 on… worth noting that Stitzel Weller historically is what made the VW Family famous with their Old Fitzgerald Brand (now owned by HH) - It is the in Lawrenceburg that catapulted the brand and overall market up - the whiskey bottled here was ALL sourced including Stitzel Weller but also Bernheim, HH, Boone, Medley, Schenley and maybe some other things… Julian kept records of what was Stitzel and so forth, but a lot was “Boone” which taste a lot like old Bernheim and Hirsch ‘74s… it’s very hard to say how much was blended as well given the nature of closures and brand consolidation that took place during the glut… seems like the number of distilling producers was reduced to 7 after the glut with a few powerhouses leftover… anyhow hard to say exactly what these are (for now🤔) but only so much bourbon is dark red or purple, variance on CGF is a good example of that
Another Marci P x KBD Classic this is virtually extinct now: Cowbow series circa 90s though ‘00
80s Distilled Rye NCF @ 101pf?? Yes Plz
The Outlaw Collectors Series was created by Marci P who sold The Van Winkle & Willett Family’s Whiskey in Japan from the mid 1980s on… Most of the brands she sold in Japan were her own using sourced juice… These here would have been released in very limited quantities circa ‘99/00 and distilled circa ‘78-80…
One of our very first Barrel Picks is the delicious Kentucky Bourbon from Preservation Dist in Bardstown… Distilled in 2016 and bottled in March of 2024 at full barrel proof and without filtration - This is great out of the bottle but does need air - enough ice to bring it down to 100-110pf is nice in the summer…
Classic Stitzel Weller bottled by the Van Winkle Family in the early 70s
A unique format from the late 70s for UK market - this 1.14L Imperial Quart is a proper 40oz and well preserved under metal cap
A mid to late 90s batch of St Nick 19y Barrel proof - most likely circa mid to late 90s and of of the wheated and/or blended variety
Just a little barrel proof Macallan from the 90s - this proof appears to be the most sherried of the bunch
One of the first St. Nicks bottles circa 1990 at the same time as all the Hirsch and VW labels that Marci & Gordon cooked up to sell to JP - this being Marci’s own label it was bottled at barrel proof
Why it’s always a good idea to clean under your couch before the end of the year….
