DUBTRIBE CATALOG
Released digitally on Bandcamp
At last.
// As a part of clearing the past, forgiving it, healing it, and also in celebration of a truly amazing weekend in Canada, we have agreed to release our five full length albums on Bandcamp for you, for us, for everyone.

I’m still probably going to be offended, and feel disrespected if you can’t tell the difference between Dubtribe Sound System and Sunshine Jones, I have worked long and hard at that distinction and will absolutely stand my ground, but Moonbeam is my best friend, the best friend I’ve ever had, and we do great things together. We have been all over the world together, on beaches, fields, warehouses and basements spreading the gospel of all music for all people with all our hearts since 1991 and we shall not stop.
Not now, not ever.

For now there are just our full lengths, but the singles, live sets, and other surprises will surely come.

Go listen and enjoy at http://dubtribe.bandcamp.com

Hey what fun! We have been included in the "top 200" dance tunes of all time... wow.

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/200-greatest-dance-songs-of-all-time-1372888/

We chime in there at #127

A few errors:
'Do It Now' was released first as a limited edition single sided clear vinyl 12" single in 2001 and meant to be the last record from Dubtribe Sound System. After 10 years of non stop touring, we'd lost our way, and found ourselves with new challenges and different things we each wanted to say. But when we sat down together and more or less reviewed all that we'd accomplished together between 1991 and 2001 we were both, of course, in tears, filled with hope and inspiration and went on to record and release the album 'Baggage' (the album with Do It Now on it) not as a message to the people, like all our other records, but rather as a love letter to each other, and a sincere thank you for what we'd meant to one another.

Also, that’s not the cover of the record (See the Rolling Stone screen grab here) No idea who that is… the cover art was made by me, by hand, and it’s a blurry circle of my personal friends and loves from 2001. See the other pictures here for a look at that.

Finally a case of underrated skill, love, permission and theft:
'Do It Now' is not a re edit of another song. It's been stolen by many, and once by an at the time well known, major label recording artist (who then asked me to remix it). Never thanked, never credited, never acknowledged, typical lack of creativity and ego. Too boring to follow up or chase down. Have fun..

The story is that the amazing and beautiful Lawrence Petty came over and we listened to some songs that they loved. We were working on a song that never came together. In that curation process I fell in love with a 2.5 second sample of Miss Chaka Khan and it sounded like she was saying "Do It Now" but of course she wasn't. I listened to that little sample for a year, playing congas, piano, drums, my P-bass, and adding to it until it became a completely new song, in a different key. No sample from the original was included. Then one day my friend Alvaro was over helping restore one of my 1200 decks and we talking about what was happening in his life, really sounded like exactly what was happening in my life. So when he left, we hugged, and I went directly down the hall and wrote these lyrics as a love song of reunion for my wife.

Eventually the 2.5 second sample (just the vocal) was brought back into the song, and I called her up and asked permission (she agreed very sweetly) and finally I asked for permission from Lawrence (because they were the catalyst and without them there wouldn't have ever been a 'Do It Now') and Lawrence agreed.

This song has changed a lot of lives, included on Everything But The Girl's amazing compilation 'Back 2 Mine' and written about so kindly by Tracy and Ben. It went from a song that cleared every floor we tried to play it on to maybe the one thing we will be truly remembered for. A love letter to my wife.

I'm so pleased that we were included, acknowledged, and a part of this silly list of tracks. Some great music in there, for sure, but what's the criteria? Who says those are the "best"? I'd love the chance to lay my top 200 on you... hahahaha!

One thing we are both very thankful for is that whomever wrote this article, and compiled this list, spelled Dubtribe Sound System absolutely correctly. You have no idea how rare that is... Thank you!

Enjoy the list, and have such a good time!!!
