A "Gulp of Cormorants"
A group of cormorants is called a gulp. Besides, based on different contexts words like flock, raft, and squadron are used to denote a group of cormorants.
Great Cormorants
Cormorants have oil glands, also known as preen glands or uropygial glands, located at the base of their tail. These glands produce oil that helps keep cormorants warm and dry, and protects their feathers.
However, cormorants don't coat their feathers evenly with oil like most water birds. Instead, water soaks into their feathers, which decreases their buoyancy and helps them sink more easily. This allows cormorants to swim more quickly underwater and capture prey more efficiently.
Some cormorants, like the double-crested cormorant, have a poorly developed preen gland. This means they have to periodically dry their feathers, which they often do by stretching their wings out in the sun.
