Two Parts Press was informally founded in 2022 by Sara Hess (she/her) and Jon Swindler (he/him) in Athens, GA shortly after the purchase of a used 18 x 36” Conrad Intaglio Press. The studio is currently outfitted for intaglio, relief, monotype and screenprinting processes. See their studio during PrintStream Studio Tours 5/18 @ 6:30PM EST!

Two Parts Press resides in a small, scruffy space behind Swindler’s home in Athens. Sara and Jon’s tour will address present and future goals for Two Parts Press as they continue to establish and construct the print shop for themselves and others. In the near future, Two Part Press plans to host artists-in-residence for week-long projects, in which artists can create editions with as much (or as little) printing assistance as necessary. Ultimately, they intend to sell these editions, splitting the profits with participating artists in order to fund future projects and endeavors.

Since opening in 2009, their greeting cards have been designed, printed, and packaged in-house. Their two-person company is fueled by “clean hands and filthy mouths.” This presentation will be led by press owner Kyle Durrie (she/her), and will tour their letterpress print shop and retail store, including images and information about their Artists’ Residency program and Moveable Type mobile letterpress truck, which toured around the country between 2011 – 2020.

We are profoundly saddened to share news of the death of Shelly Gipson, a longtime MAPC member and supporter. A previous member of the board and a guest editor of the MAPC journal, she most recently served on the Membership Engagement Committee and chaired the 2022-24 board nominating committee. In 2021, she helped to develop and organize the inaugural PrintStream online professional development workshop "How To Apply." Shelley was a generous collaborator and donated her time, energy, and resources to MAPC and the wider printmaking community without hesitation. PrintStream as an event exists as it does because Shelley helped create it.

Shelley was passionate about supporting young artists. At the 2022 MAPC conference at Kent State University, she organized the "Call to Action" print exchange around the idea of mentorship. Print students and their respective mentors applied as collaborative pairs, working together on their portfolio pieces. In her time as a professor at Arkansas State University, she mentored countless students of her own.

Shelley leaves big shoes to fill—her kindness and generosity as an educator characterized her many significant contributions to our discipline.

Snag an amazing set of these Riso posters by donating to the strike fund! Thanks !!💚💚💚
・・・
(Re)created these riso prints à la Atelier Populaire, because we need another student revolution. The lime green flyers are for campus distribution (DM me if you want to take some to hang around Temple), but the classic colors are available on card stock for the print folk among you. Send me a screenshot of your donation to the strike fund (link in bio, gentle suggestion of $30+) and I’ll mail you a set.

The grad students at at are on strike after months of negotiations where administrators refused to budge and offer anything close to living wages. If you want a taste of how low the Temple’s president and his team will go, note that they have 1) sent tuition bills to striking workers who had full tuition remission and 2) individually unenrolled workers from active health insurance. Temple spends less per dollar on instructional costs than any other R1 university (62 cents!) and our football coach earns $2 million every year.

If you know grads on strike elsewhere who want the PDF for their own protests, I’m happy to pass it on. Also: .marie simultaneously and independently made the smokestack fist (!!!) because is magic.

PS: I’m not in TAUP, so I can do this all day 😊

18/02/2023

We’re standing with Temple University Graduate Students’ Association (TUGSA)! Grad students are on strike after months of negotiating for a living wage, healthcare for dependents and families, longer parental leave (currently 5 days!) and bereavement leave, and better working conditions.
Check out www.tugsa.org/strike to learn how to support!
