Our colleague Gregory Nick Sevilla conducted another Lloyd's Register - Safety Culture Leadership course for Avior seafarers on The Phillippines.
Great to see everytime again the engagement of the participants, the close cooperation with our client (Avior Managing Director Joost Mes joining regurlarly for two days and handing over the certificates) and our partner Gigamare Inc. providing a fantastic location and training support!
We are happy to announce that Roman Heil was interviewed about Atria´s HEISS (Human Element In Shipping Simulation) training. The whole interview can be found in the latest issue of the Shipmanagement International (page 46/47).
Have a look how Atria can turn learnings into actions!

First version of Management Leadership Development Program for Support Level was rolled out for Seatrade at the Maritime MAST in Marongodon. The training is meant for Ratings in supervisory rolls such as Bosuns or for experienced ratings having the experience and ambition to be promoted into a supervisory position.
Apart from one day classroom instruction most time is spend on practical scenario's where each of the participants is observed in a supervisory role. After each exercise feedback was given to have a closer look at the behavioral aspects of the team tasks. At the end of the course the participants committed themselves to bringing the lessons learned into practice through a Turning Learning into Practice (TLA) agreement.
Great example that not the learning instrument makes the difference, but a design and 'flow' suitable for participants and context is what creates real impact!
First Batch of Avior Marine Junior Officers completed the Lloyds Register 'Safety Culture Leadership' course on the Philippines! This highly interactive course applies the TOPSIM "Human Element In Shipping Simulation (HEISS)". It provides a key starting point to understand, feel and experience how changes can be communicated in order to achieve the necessary level of crew commitment and responsibility, influencing performance and safety onboard!
First batch of Reederei Hartmann's new designed maritime 'Management and Leadership Development Program' for top-notch officers and ashore personnel. Refreshing Hartmann's already conducted programs and exploring the current reality, we had to design a very special program.
Combining e-learning, a customized version of the TOPSIM-Human Element In Shipping Simulation, behavioral analysis, experiential learning, office-briefings, social activities and full-mission bridge/engine simulation was quite a challenge, yet led to very interactive and impactful days!
Thanks to the highly engaged Hartmann team, we all learned from each other and the next batch will be even better.
Just great to walk the Atria talk: TOGETHER IS BETTER!
Fantastic to get this feedback from new facilitators after conducting their own first HEISS course:
"The combination of lecture, HEISS phases and teambuilding activities was such a success that the participants never had a dull moment. The constant engagement of trainee, active participation, decision making and teambuilding makes the difference in HEISS training. Definitely the participants love it. They see the benefit of it.
As facilitator it was fulfulling to have carried out a very interactive training where you can feel, see and hear from the participants how much it affected them. How much it moved them."
Check out this barefoot video, created by participants of Seatrade's MLDP2 - Safety Culture Leadership program last week in Vladivostok. This video has been created at the end of the first day, focusing participants to reflect on the day's learning, to work together as a team and to have fun as well!

The first 'Safety Culture Leadership' course has been conducted for Seafarers and office staff in Vladivostok, Russia! Integrating the TOPSIM-Human Element In Shipping Simulation, behavioral analysis, corporate standards and practical team challenges, participants and facilitators experienced the 'Human Element' together in a hands-on manner, just as our credo emphasizes:
Together is Better!
