Let’s talk “Grab & Go” Setups for a second.

This particular setup was put together to test an idea that used materials that were already available in inventory which would enable extended fighting capabilities when you’ve already got a pistol on your person and just enough time to grab a rifle in one hand with this “bag” in the other. It can be compared to a miniaturized version of an Active Shooter Kit utilized by Law Enforcement when responding to active threats or any time a long gun comes out of the rack.

Another possible use for this kit is as a bed side response kit to be utilized when something goes bump in the night.

It doesn’t do everything and isn’t meant to. It’s simply meant to give a boost in capability that you otherwise wouldn’t have. It’s a light and handy kit, nothing more, nothing less.

Shout out to for the inspiration for the idea with the Mini Go-Bags they’ve been showing off. I got these pouches from them and from

It consist of an Eagle Industries Quad Mag Pouch and a VooDoo Tactical Utility Pouch Molle’d to one another. The shoulder strap is an Original Special Operations Equipment 2-to-1 Convertible Bungee Sling attached via loops of 550 cord to the middle area where the two pouches mate. I’ve also added bungee retention with hand sewn pull tabs to the EI Mag Pouch for quicker access. Shock Cord routed on the front of the Utility Pouch allows the securing of a Tourniquet for quick access as well.

x2 AR PMags
x2 5 Round SOE Shotgun Cards w 00 Buckshot

The results from the previous post about checking and reorganizing medical supplies. Starting from the top left we have an Entry Bag meant for ERT/SWAT Callouts. Next we have a Restock Bag with all the supplies organized by specific type, this bag comes out once something has been used from the other bags. The black bag on the right is a Standby/Team Health Bag filling the role that a more traditional EMS jump bag would fill by being able to handle a wide variety of injuries from scrapes and strains to more serious trauma, to being able to start handling a BLS Code situation. On the bottom row left to right, the first two pouches are BooBoo Kits meant to deal with small injuries before they become big problems and take a person out of the fight. The last 3 pouches fill the role of what people refer to as IFAKs or Individual First Aid Kits. They are meant to initially stabilize life threatening injuries via the MARCH Algorithm. Not featured is the Trauma Treatment Pouch/Dangler that is attached to my body armor.

So many Medical Supplies… it’s advised from time to time you gather everything, take stock, and re-outfit your kits to replace out of date or damaged items. It’s also beneficial to update your supplies to be more in line with current evidence based medical practices.

Got some awesomeness from today. Needed a new pouch for an E Tool, got one of my favorite pouches which is the V2 Eagle Industries Canteen/GP pouch, and got some IFAK insert sleeves that were gonna do some testing with.

You can snag these at the All Hands Muster. Definitely an event you don’t want to miss.

I’ve posted in our stories lately about how often times you’re not going to be good at something when you first learn it and even for some time after that it requires consistent and proper practice to become good at things. Intubation is the latest example of a skill that I have struggled to become proficient at as I progress through paramedic school. Today I had a break through moment regarding my technique and ability to visualize the vocal cords when I decided to take advantage of some random training equipment sitting in the ambulance bays at work. Remember folks, it’s okay to wear that dunce hat for a little bit but once you become aware of your insufficiencies you should be constantly working to correct them. This applies to anything in life.
Be Harder to Kill, Train More… your life or the life of someone else will depend on it.

Let’s talk Team Health for a moment…

When you’re the designated Team Medic it is a benefit to have a stockpile of various medications and preventative care items. While each member of your team should have their own little stash of various items to take care of bumps, scrapes, allergies, headaches, or environmental issues it always pays to have extra stuff on hand to utilize incase a member forgot theirs or ran out before getting to restock.

We have a Lecture that we present on the subject of Team Health and we get down into the weeds about all sorts of topics, including over the counter medications and medical care products that a Team Medic should keep on hand for the benefit of the team.

This photo illustrates some of the things that can be obtained from a local dollar store which are located in rural and urban areas alike. This is by no means an exhaustive listing of items you should have, rather a sample of what could be gathered on sale for this particular trip to the store. If you’d like to learn more about Team Medicine keep your eyes peeled for offerings of our Team Health Lecture.

Remember; Be Harder to Kill, Train More

Can you truly be considered good if you haven’t developed any “claws”? Or are you just beholden to the circumstances of life?

22/11/2022

Helicopter Based EMS really is a benefit in rural environments when critical patients need to get to appropriate definitive care rapidly.
