We lost a warrior.
For over 20 years, Njambi Koikai battled painful periods caused by endometriosis and went through multiple surgeries. Until her death yesterday, she used her experience to create awareness of endometriosis in Kenya and beyond.
May her soul rest in peace.

On 28th May 2024 , which was The Menstrual Hygiene Day , we held interactive sessions at Ikang, Bakassi, where our participants, who were a mix of IDP's and land owners shared the financial difficulties they face regarding pads and how period poverty affects their health. They unanimously called on the government to reduce the cost of pads.

At Feminine Voices, we join our voices with theirs and ask that all taxes be removed from period products, subsidies be added to period products, and price tags be added to all period products. Menstrual products are not luxury items and should not be expensive. Every girl should be able to menstruate without stress.

We're grateful to our partners We the People Campaign Nigerian Red Cross Society for their support in making this event a success.

Celebrating Menstrual Hygiene Day with the Feminine Voices ✨

On Menstrual Hygiene Day 2024, Feminine Voices in partnership with the people campaign, Feminism wing and the Nigerian Red Cross society, Bakassi Division hosted an inspiring program for 80 young girls in Bakassi, to educate them on the importance of menstrual hygiene and health.

The program aimed to break the stigma and shame around menstruation by creating a safe space for these young girls to learn, share, and grow.

They learned a great deal about:

- Menstrual health and hygiene
- Proper sanitary product use and management.
- Promoting self-care and confidence
- Dispelling cultural stigmas and falsehoods.

Feminine Voices is committed to empowering women and girls, promoting gender equality, and building inclusive communities. This event was one of their tireless efforts to effect positive change in the society.

Let's continue to support initiatives like these, ensuring that every girl and woman has access to the knowledge, resources, and support they deserve.

Women go through several period challenges every month. One of the most significant challenges is period cramps. It is based on this that some countries have enacted policies that allow women with painful menstruation to have monthly period leave. What's your take on this? How much do you know about period leave?

Girls want equal rights!
Girls want equal rights!

No girl has been allowed to be a prefect in my school.
I want a change.
How?
I want my school to nominate girls for important positions like that of a senior school prefect. ...........................................................................

We spoke to young girls aged 8-15 to tell us what changes they want to see in the world to end gender inequality. We'll be sharing their various responses with you.

Where necessary, we will rephrase some notes.

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields have over the years been dominated by men. To bridge this gap, girls need opportunities and support to excel in the world of STEM.

One of the ways girls in STEM can be supported is through mentorship. Women who are doing well in various STEM fields can serve as an inspiration and provide real-life lessons to younger girls whose dream is to do well in various STEM careers.

Girls' rights are not just girls' rights.
Girls' rights are human rights. We must end every form of discrimination and abuse targeted at the rights of girls. Achieving gender equality starts with protecting the rights of girls and women.

Did you know?

On average a woman menstruates for about 7 years during their lifetime.

10/03/2023

According to available statistics, there are over 500 million people in the world who lack access to menstrual hygiene products and facilities.

As we work to achieve quality education by 2030, we must do everything possible to ensure girls are not left out. First, we must work to end the gender stereotypes that exist around certain professions and fields. Girls get discouraged from pursuing their dreams when they are told they can't excel in certain fields simply because they're girls.

Several girls also skip school every month when they can't afford period products to use to school. Sanitary towels and other period products should be made affordable.

Sanitary pads 🔥🔥
But why do they have to be so expensive?

26/09/2022

It’s back to school season and that means back to helping girls stay in school without period concerns.

Menstruation can't stop our girls from going to school and studying to achieve their dreams.

Period poverty anywhere is period poverty everywhere. Girls should not be using tissues and rags as a substitute for actual period products.

One community at a time, we are tackling period poverty and ensuring girls can flow without worries.

We visited Akpabuyo local government area of Cross River State, two days ago. Our visit aimed to enlighten young girls about menstrual hygiene and assist them in fighting period poverty.

We took time to teach them and answer their burning questions centered on menstruation and ovulation. Some mothers also attended the event. The reason we invited mothers was to let them know that they have major roles in teaching their teenage daughters about menstrual hygiene and providing period products to them, whenever they can.

Most importantly, all the girls went home with free sanitary pads. We appreciate everyone who donated to make this happen. We will make an official post with the names of our donors and sponsors in the coming days.

Best regards

We are excited that justice has been served and the soul of Iniubong Umoren who was r@ped and murd£red, can finally rest in peace.

We have a big announcement 🔥🔥🔥
Because we are committed to tackling period poverty in Cross River State, we will be delivering sanitary pads to the doorsteps of girls aged 15 and below from low-income homes in Calabar who cannot afford sanitary pads.

We have provided phone numbers where they can text to demand sanitary pads. And since we know most of them might not have access to cell phones, we allow adults to text on their behalf.

You can partner with us, you can donate pads to help us reach as many girls as possible.

03/08/2022

Endeavour to change your pads at least three times a day to stay healthy. Wearing a pad for too long can expose you to health risks.

30/06/2022

Every school should have WASH facilities for girls to wash their hands after changing their pads.

Menstrual hygiene is important.

Photos from FeminineVoices's post 24/06/2022

Every school should have a pad bank where girls can conveniently go for period products whenever they need them.

Our pad bank consists of sanitary pads, wipes, and soaps. So far, this bank exists in one secondary school located in Cross River State.

We hope to expand soon.

When we decided to start the “pad a school project,” we weren't so sure what the outcome of the project would be. But the moment we reached out to Barr. Firsts Baba Isa of FBI LEGAL, he didn't just donate sanitary pads, but he rather partnered with us and that made it possible for us to easily execute the project.

That partnership stands at the core of our “pad a school project” success story at FeminineVoices. We are grateful to FBI Legal for believing that girls deserve to stay in school and have worry-free periods.

Thank you, sir and thank you to everyone at the FBI Legal.

Period Fact
Not all menstrual cycles last for 28 days.

Girls in school should have access to period information so that they don't fall for lies and myths surrounding menstruation.

We want access to period products and resources for girls in schools.
