New Buddhist Zen Sound Han, Wood Block Percussion Gong

Heavy wooden block Japanese Zen Han built early this year.

This Zen Han(with Teachings / Writings of Ven SEUNG SAHN, Korean Buddhist Zen Master) will be finally ready in the coming week. Sorry for taking long time(our workshop was relocated). This was created for exhibition; if someone is interested, we can send for them - surely nice quote🌈 We will be striking this new Han in a video later for all audience.
The han is the wooden block that hangs near the entryway of the meditation hall. It is a traditional Chinese way to call people to meditation. The three “rounds,” each ending in a “roll-down,” summon first the outer community, then the people living in the monastery, and finally announce that the teacher is coming to the meditation hall. 🙏

The big wooden fish called Hô is used principally in the Sôtô monastery. The inside is hollowed out. It is used to announce the midday meal. Looking rectangular and suspended in front of dinning halls of Buddhist temples, it is said that fish don't close their eyes when sleeping to remind the chanting monks to concentrate on when they are doing. When having breakfast and lunch, the monks beat the latter type of wooden fish to produce a rhythm the monks call the "Bang."
