Today’s the day! How about that 40 things by 40 years old?!? It was a MAJOR FAIL! Life has been a roller coaster lately, so my list of ideas fell by the wayside. Even though the roller coaster has been full of twists and turns, ups and downs, everything that is happening is exciting and all because of love. ❤️ Engagement, selling my house, moving to a new area, and now turning 40...life is a journey! I’m getting settled into a new routine and new neighborhood. I bought myself a nice spin bike and my running path is now along the river. As many of you know, one of my main goals in life is to be healthy and happy. I’m also working towards better balance. We are all working on something in our lives. We have about 6 more weeks left in 2019. I’ve set some goals to finish the year strong. Some of the things include getting back to my 40 by 40 list while other things involve finding a new routine that works for me. 😍 Tonight’s dinner was just what I needed! Been eating out a lot lately and I wanted and needed to get back to cooking tonight. Blackened shrimp, diced cauliflower and cubed red potatoes...all courtesy of my favorite Trader Joe’s. The only thing that would’ve made it better would be if the shrimp was grilled, but my grill master was busy tonight and I didn’t want to risk it. Feeling happy and healthy! What are you having for dinner tonight or this week?

❤️ I know it’s been awhile, but I’m trying to live my happy and healthy life. Two words that I’m focusing on currently are BALANCE and PAUSE. Balance is reminding me to work towards health and happiness in a balanced way. Pause is reminding me to stop in the moment and be sure I’m making the best decision for my health and happiness. My “all or nothing” personality sometimes interferes with these ideas. 🤨 These are my theme words as I move into the fall season. What kinds of things do you want to work on as we move into fall? Don’t forget to take care of yourself! What can you start incorporating in your life to live a more happy and healthy life?

I ❤️ Kroger Gel Bites! They are a lifesaver some evenings when I want something sweet that won’t effect my nutrition plan too drastically. The entire bag is 50 calories! Love these! What are your lifesavers when it comes to food?

Obsessed ❤️ Olé Wraps
These wraps are low calorie, high fiber, and have a nice soft texture that tastes good. I’ve used them for tacos and sandwich roll ups with my favorite mustard (stay tuned for that!) I found these at Kroger. Yum!

40 by 40! As you know I’m trying to do a variety of 40 things before turning the big 4-0 in a few months, and I did a few of them this weekend. Get out and enjoy this beautiful weather! What are you going to do today to increase your health and happiness?

New month, new ideas...and I need your help! In November, I’ll be turning the big 4-0 so I thought it would be fun to try to accomplish 40 things before I turn 40. 🤷‍♀️ I’ve started a list, but I need many more ideas. That’s where you come in! I like a challenge and I’m looking to have fun with this. Here’s what I have so far...indoor skydiving, read a book from start to finish, go on a hike each month up through November, go on a friend date each month, go to a movie by myself, go to dinner by myself, go on a 20+ mile bike ride each month, get a massage each month, color a picture in a coloring book, sew something, have an entire day of only drinking water!

What should I add to my list? Let’s hear it!! I’ll start documenting and sharing my 40 things as soon as I begin. And remember, I may ask you to join me especially if you suggest something outrageous! 😉 Wish me luck!!

Has life ever interfered with your meal plans? Ever had a time when you don’t want to go to the store and restock? Or how about losing motivation or you’re short on time to cook that delicious dinner? Get a backup plan so you don’t feel like you must choose something easy and possibly unhealthy 🍔🌭🍟🍕🌮. You’ll feel more in control of your choices for nutrition if you know you always have a backup.

My fridge is always stocked with eggs, and I typically have either fresh bread or English muffins on hand. If they aren’t fresh, I definitely have some in the freezer. I have some other “go to foods”, but I just had eggs for lunch so that’s what you’re seeing today.

School’s Out For Summer! ☀️

I just finished my 17th year of teaching 🤓 and I’m thinking about my new summer routine. I personally do and feel my best when I have a routine. What classes do I want to try out? How many days do I want to focus on weight training? What about getting back into swimming? Any new recipes I want to tackle? The possibilities are endless. Inspiration and Creativity 🤓

A few 5th graders at my school did an amazing creativity project that touched my heart and soul. They printed a bunch of inspirational quotes and passed them out along with painting the quotes on rocks to put around the school and community. I asked them if I could have their stash of quotes if they didn’t want them after the showcase, so I now have a collection of great sayings. How inspiring and creative are these 5th graders?! It’s amazing what kids can do when you give them a voice and a choice. 🙌🏻

I cut these flowers yesterday, and they make me happy every time I walk by. I’m so glad I decided to cut them and bring them in!

Preparation is the key to success 🤓

My lunches have been made for the week, and I’m ready to conquer the next five days of life. The less I need to think about during this hectic time of year, the better I feel. When I fuel myself with healthy nutrition, my body and mind is strong and able to handle anything that comes my way. My goal is to continue to feel happy and healthy as the month of May continues. Help?!?! Hello friends! My evening eating needs some modifying and I need your help. The time after dinner is tough some nights when I don’t have a lot going on. Some nights I’m bored, some nights I’m tired, and some nights I’m fine. Any ideas on what I can do to fill my time or distract myself? What works for you? Give me some ideas!

My idea and goal for this week is to drink a glass of water before dinner and a glass of water after dinner. I’m thinking when my body says I’m “hungry” around 8ish pm, I may really be thirsty. So here’s to trying something new (and peeing all night long)! 😉

Grit has been one of my favorite words over the past few years. I speak about its importance at school with my students, at the gym with my clients, and refer to it in my own life when I’m reflecting on my goals.

If you’ve never heard of it, grit is passion and perseverance for long-term goals. No matter what you’re trying to accomplish in your life journey, bumps along the road will happen. Buckle your seatbelt and keep moving forward towards your goals.

Goal for the Week 🤔: Journaling!

Nighttime eating is a daily struggle for me. I’ve actively worked for many years to curb this habit because it often leads to an excessive amount of unhealthy eating.

I’ve tried many strategies:
🍦Allowing one treat (backfires!)
🚫Eating nothing after dinner (backfires!)
✅Jello or gum or fruit or oatmeal (usually helps but doesn’t fix the habit)

Some evenings are more difficult than others. I’ve realized over the many years I’ve maintained my weight loss that I like a nighttime snack (feeling deprived can be a trigger for me) and also this habit usually has nothing to do with food. It’s mainly all about emotions; sometimes I’m bored, sometimes I’m lonely, sometimes I’m stressed, and sometimes it’s all of the above.

So instead of worrying so much about finding a food that will work in the evening, I’m going to look more at my emotions. Therefore this week, I’m going to begin daily journaling to see if it helps with some of the emotions I’m having in the evening.

I’m thankful for my health because the current Aunt Katie is able to keep up and play all day...much more than the Aunt Katie in 2010. I’m a great aunt regardless of the body I’m in, but I’m enjoying life much more now that I’m living a healthy lifestyle. Think about the relationships you hold dear to your heart.
