History of “The Whoopie Pie”:
Whoopie pies are considered a New England phenomenon and a Pennsylvania Amish tradition. These treats are more like a cake than a pie or a cookie. They are traditionally generously sized and go great with a tall glass of milk. Whoopie Pies are a baked cake like cookie with a cream fluff filling between the soft cookies. You eat these like a s
andwich, while enjoying the taste and texture of a fresh piece of cake. The recipe has it's origins with the Amish. In Lancaster County Pennsylvania it is not uncommon to find roadside farms stands offering these desserts. Around 1930 Amish women first made the wonderful treats from leftover cake batter. According to food historians, Amish women would bake these and put them in their husband’s lunch pails. When husbands would find these treats in their lunch bags, they would shout "Whoopie!"
