Strelitzia is a vibrant ensemble presenting innovative programs of classical and contemporary chambe
Strelitzia has been widely praised for their innovative programs which typically feature the great masterpieces of the Classical, Romantic and Twentieth Century chamber music repertoire alongside lesser known gems from around the world, as well as fresh new contemporary works with influences ranging from world music to Jazz to modern dance music. The ensemble is deeply committed to promoting Austr
alian music by both emerging and established composers, and this features heavily in their programs. In 2010, Strelitzia made the first recordings of Elena Kats-Chernin’s 'The Spirit and the Maiden' and Matthew Hindson’s Piano Trio with ABC Classic FM, and in 2011, the ensemble commissioned renowned shadow puppeteer Fiona Gentle to create a work complementing 'The Spirit and the Maiden', which premiered in the Seymour Centre in December 2011. Strelitzia often features premieres of Australian works or Australian premieres of international works, and has commissioned and premiered a number of works by Australian composers. In 2014, Strelitzia completed their third studio recording for ABC Classic FM featuring specially commissioned works by Newcastle based composer Andrew Chubb.
