The Sherman Minton Bridge opened to traffic in 1962 and is one of the few double decked, twin arch bridges in the country.
Once complete later this year, the Sherman Minton Renewal will continue to be a vital connector for residents of Louisville and New Albany as they access work, family and more for years to come.
As the Sherman Minton Bridge connects New Albany and West Louisville, Thunder over Louisville brings our Kentuckiana community together to celebrate the Kentucky Derby Festival season. 🎆

What a beautiful moonrise over the Sherman Minton Bridge!
I don’t know how I missed this one?! This was the spectacular full moon rising two nights ago through the Sherman Minton bridge before getting swallowed up by the clouds. That perspective is wild!

Our Story
The Sherman Minton Renewal is a $90+ million bridge rehabilitation and painting project to significantly extend the service life of the 56-year old bridge.
Named for Indiana Senator and Associate Supreme Court Justice Sherman Minton, the Sherman Minton Bridge was built in 1956 and now carries 90,000 vehicles daily between New Albany, IN and Louisville, KY.
The bridge itself is composed of 5 bridge structures – and repair work will include replacement or refurbishment of all bridge decks, rehabilitation or replacement of structural steel elements and hanger cables, new lighting, drainage repairs and painting of the steel components.
The Project Team is exploring all options for construction, and public input will be an important part of the process. An approach will be recommended in the fall of 2019.
