Summers can be busy. To prepare for the upcoming school year, or to simply encourage the habit of reading, schedule Daily Reading into your day.

Begin by reading a book together, or by having your child read aloud. For more advanced readers, begin by scheduling a 15 - 30 minute time block for reading and to talk about what was read. ⏱

Two keys:

📚Find a book that appeals to the reader.

📆 Be consistent by reading everyday.

~~~~~~~~~~
In need of more academic preparation? That’s what we’re here for.
Quality Counts offers lessons of Private Academic Instruction during the summer! With lessons catered to the child's interests and focused on the subject area(s) in which your child needs additional support, your child learns how to conquer tough topics, and progresses confidently into the new school year.
🗓Schedule your free lesson today by visiting our website.
Although the week is coming to an end, we want to honor the invaluable Teacher. ⁣
The teacher's day is not finished once the students leave school. Teachers continue to work by providing feedback on students' assignments, and by preparing engaging instruction for the next day and weeks ahead. A teacher's life is dedicated to educating the next generation. ⁣
At Quality Counts, we partner with teachers and parents to support students once they leave school for the day. Through high quality academic tutoring lessons, we work by helping students with relating to their classroom assignments, and with completing assignments with confidence! Contact us for more information on how we can partner with a teacher to help your young learner. ⁣
From Quality Counts, Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!⁣
In the past, glasses and contact lenses have had the purpose of correcting the vision of people who have difficulty seeing objects close by or far way, or they were worn worn as fashionable accessories.
_
Today, a few companies have filed patents for smart contact lenses which would do more than just assisting with correcting vision. Some lenses would be functional for entertainment purposes, while others would function towards monitoring a person's health.
Today is the first day of Kwanzaa. Kwanzaa is a Swahili word meaning “first” and signifies the first fruits of a harvest. The week of Kwanzaa is celebrated from December 26 - January 1 every year. When we move to higher or lower altitudes, the air pressure outside of our bodies changes. This change creates a difference in pressure on the two sides of the eardrum (the outer ear and the middle ear).
_
When the air pressure around us changes, the air pressure in the middle ear would remain the same it wasn’t for the Eustachian tube. Air moves slightly through the Eustachian tube to equalize the pressure between the outside ear and the middle ear. This creates the *pop* sound you may hear as the Eustachian tube opens to allow air to pass through, to equalize air pressure on both sides of the ear drum.
_
Have you ever experienced a change in air pressure?
We're working with large numbers today! We know that you can too!
_
Put all of the numbers you are working with in the same unit of measurement (either meters or miles).
_
Divide the (distance between the sun and the earth) by (the speed of light). This will give you the number of seconds it takes for sunlight to reach the earth.
_
You can then divide that number by 60 to determine the number of minutes, because there are 60 seconds in 1 minute.
_
Post your answers below! We'll post the answer tomorrow!
Homeostasis – a self-regulating process by which an organism tends to maintain stability while adjusting to conditions that are best for its survival. An example of homeostasis is when the body works to regulate its temperature. The normal temperature for the human adult body while at rest is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit.
_
When the body overheats due to exercise, or sickness, for example, the body begins to sweat in an attempt to cool the body down and return it to its normal temperature.
_
When the body’s temperature drops below 98.6 degrees, and when the body senses a dangerously low temperature, the body may shiver towards generating heat in an attempt to raise the body’s temperature.
_
Can you share any other examples of homeostasis that you know about?
