Did you know? In 1921, a wealthy gambling hall owner, John W. Marchbank, converted the 255-acre Sulphur Springs Ranch on Ygnacio Valley Road into a thoroughbred horse training facility. He named it Heather Farm after his champion stallion, Heather King.
It soon became one of the most prominent horse-breeding farms in the country. During the Great Depression, movie stars Clark Gable and Madge Evans filmed scenes for an MGM movie, Sporting Blood, at Heather Farm. It was Gable’s first starring role.
