Redington Mushing
Follow Redington Mushing to watch Ryan train and race to win the Iditarod Sled Dog Race!
I flew back to Alaska to see my dad and mom and an opportunity to help Hunter train his b team was an option. And seeing three other family members already in the race and thought it would be fun to join them. My brother Robert, our niece Ellen and nephew Isaac. Very nice to see everyone and see some snow. Pretty cool Isaac got to run a race on his birthday. It’s been a long time since 4 Redingtons been in the same race.
First day of the Knik 100 Bruce Braden Memorial was a lot of fun. The trail crew did an awesome job putting in a race trail with all the recent snow Knik has received recently. The Knik Trail Blazers organization has put on a really good race so far. The dogs I raced did pretty good. Hunter has them trained up nice. Impressive group of mushers and their teams in the race and especially the junior mushers. Day two is going to be slower and tougher. It’s snowing good.
I will be racing tomorrow in the Knik 100 with Raymie and Barbara Redington dogs. These are dogs that Hunter Keefe has trained up this year and he will have lots of these dogs in his Iditarod team.
Ryan Alwin and Russ Wilkins heading out on the trail. This is Ryan’s third year helping train and we sure are happy he’s back with us again. This is Russ’s first season and just got here a couple days ago. Also Morgan Martens been another big help training this year again. Thank you guys very much. Do you think Lynx and Elvis are excited to run today?

Sarah and I worked on a cruise ship named Silverseas in September that started in Nome and went down to the Aleutian Islands and then southeast Alaska and finished in Vancouver. We saw some amazing and beautiful scenery and lots and lots of very pretty animals. We rescued a caribou with our friend Fede from being entangled in a big pile of rope. It was a close call as the tide was coming in. After he was cut free, he quickly went up the bank and ate some grass and rested some. We watched him for a couple hours as he grazed and moved toward other caribou up the mountain. In Nome we went to our friend Cassie’s preschool and I read a book to her class written by Iditarod champ Libby Riddles. We stopped by St. Paul and went to the Community center and talked to the kids there as they was making slime. That was cool. In Unalaska we went and talked to 7 classrooms from Kindergarten to 4th grade. And we even talked to the community on the radio there also. The superintendent there we met again, the first time we met was this March during the Iditarod she skijor with her dog from Unalakleet to Shaktoolik. Then met family for the first time in Sitka. And met locals in Elfin Cove, and in Metlakatla we danced with the Tsimshians. That was really cool and we learned a lot about their people and culture and heritage. Thanks Kelly for your special hat. It was very nice meeting so many cool and special people along the way. Thanks Silverseas for the amazing opportunity and making possible for us to travel and see many parts of Alaska that we have always wanted to go but never have gone to before and bringing us to meet so many special people on the way and during the cruise too. Friendships that I hope last a lifetime.
Way to go Morgan! Looking forward to mushing with you soon and watching you race again.
Prep boys cross country: Martens ‘embodies’ the ‘secret sauce’ at Northwestern The Tigers junior spends his winters training and running sled dogs and has run the Junior Iditarod three times.
Awesome to see Bailey sign up for his second Iditarod. Look forward to sharing the trails with you and your beautiful dog team.
The Iditarod is pleased to announce that veteran musher Bailey Vitello has entered the 2024 Iditarod. Vitello is a second-generation musher from Milan, New Hampshire, who has been running dogs since he was three years old. Bailey ran his first Iditarod this last March, finishing in 24th place, crossing the Finish line in 11 days, 16 hours, 49 minutes and 57 seconds.
We look forward to seeing you and your team back on the trail in 2024, Bailey!
Picture here is of a 200 dog team mushing down Knik Goosebay Road. My Grandpa Joe had this idea and together with his mushing friends from Knik hooked up 200 dogs to a greyhound tour bus. The year was 1976 and they did it to celebrate the bicentennial year for celebrating the founding of the United States of America.
Just saw this on the Discovery Princess in Skagway. Another picture of my Grandpa and Feets. I am on board to talk about the Alaskan Huskies, the Iditarod and my experiences racing in it. Meet so many nice people and doggy people also.
My Grandpa Joe training in Knik in this picture with 21 dogs in his team, 1975 and at 58 years of age in this picture. Lead dog name is Feets. Lots of my childhood I remember mushers with big teams like this on sled, 20 to 24 dogs. Mushers trained big teams because they could start the Iditarod with 20 dogs up to about 1994.
Dogs are doing great. They are strong and happy! We look forward to Iditarod 2024.
Enjoying Bristol Bay Salmon. Thank you Bristol Bay Native Corporation for sponsoring the Iditarod and The First Fish Award for the musher to reach Kaltag.
Excited to be at Bear Tooth TheatrePub at the first screening of Redington’s Run. Thanks Inukshuk for powering our team!
Couple of photos of Ghost and Erhart. Thanks Monica Crenier for taking these photos and sharing with us.
Sarah has been working on a new champion t-shirt concept design. It’s not final yet. It will be very similar to this. It will have all the dog names on the back that was on the team this year. What do you guys think? We will post a link soon on the website and on Facebook on how to order and buy them. Thanks to all our fans out there. You guys are amazing.
Mario. To me he is super Mario. Three years old. This guy is an absolute amazing sled dog. He's very eager and he jumps high. Mario is one of our biggest dogs. Our friends Chad and Erin Schouweiler bred up Mario. They sure named him right. I do look for Mario to be on the main team in Iditarod this year for us. This guy is special and I am so glad to have a dog with his athletic ability and his cool loving personality too.
Thorn. Two years old. Raced Iditarod this year with my buddy Mike Williams Jr. Thorn loves to have fun and one that’s loves to love on you. Always happy. His Mom Rivet won Iditarod this year. And his half brother Sven (with Ghost) received the Lolly Medley Golden Harness award for being the best lead dog award in the Iditarod. I look for him to be going Iditarod in March.
Training for Iditarod 2024. These guests sure had fun. These dogs are so special and they are ready to defend their championship.
Here we go again! Redington Mushing joined 25 other teams for first day of 2024 Iditarod sign-ups. I am excited to get the chance to defend the Champion title and look forward to running a great group of dogs again this year. The last three Iditarod champions signed up with some other big time competitors also. Exciting to have very tough competition. Thank you to everybody who has supported the team so far this season. Special thanks to Pike Legal Group, Ryan Air, Debbi and Dave Burgeson, Mary Lee, Dogbooties.com, and Inukshuk for their sponsorship this year!
Warrior and Ghost today. Warrior is 2 years old and today is learning to be a lead dog. He has Ghost next to him and is helping teach him what it takes to be a lead dog. Ghost is one of the two lead dogs that led us to winning the Iditarod this year. Ghost and Sven won the Lolly Medley Golden Harness award in this year’s Iditarod. Warrior is an upcoming star of ours.
It’s time for another round of 🐾2023 Dogs of the Iditarod🐾where we are highlighting the incredible 4-legged athletes that were at the starting line of this year's Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. The next team on the lineup are the dogs of our 2023 Iditarod Champion, Ryan Redington!
Lead Dogs: Rivet and Quigley
Swing Dogs: Henry and Ghost
Team Dogs: Sven, Singe, Bolt, Vrabel, Elvis, Splint, Wildfire and Journey

When asked about his team this year, Ryan said, “Our dog Wildfire recovered from a traumatic snowmachine accident and 3 fractured leg bones to start in this year's race. Also super proud of our lead pup Ghost, who finished the last four Iditarods for me in lead to Nome!”

A couple pictures of me about 38 years ago. Still using the same commands, “ready and mush”.
Quebec had 5 puppies yesterday. All girls, and all are big and healthy pups. Quebec is doing great too. Wildfire is the Dad.
Thank you Iditarod, Greg Heister and the Iditarod insider team for the video! We are working towards Iditarod 2024.
While I was in Juneau, I went and saw Iditarod mushers Robert Redington and Hunter Keefe. although the visits was short, it was very cool to see them and look at some good looking dogs. I got to see Iditarod mushers in Skagway also. Great to spend some time with Jimmy Lebling and Peter Bartlett.
