This Friday October 13th is the Tim Pauch Memorial at Grandview (PA) Speedway.
The Stockton NJ based racer tried his hand in Modifieds for a brief stint, but he soon showed a vast interest in Enduro racing. While his brother Billy Pauch was rewriting the history books in the Modifieds, Tim found a different racing path in enduros.
Back in the 80s, endurance racing looked a little different than today's version. It took top notch mechanical skills and good driving to win a 100-200 car enduro race with 100+ cars in competition. Pauch won at many venues including the Flemington Fairgrounds dirt and asphalt, and also captured championships at Flemington. Tim's resume of speedways included a variety of ovals, including the old racetrack at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia.
As years continued, car counts started to diminish in Enduro Racing. That was until the NEETS (North East Enduro Tour Series) promoted an affordable and fun brand of racing that competed primarily at the paved Evergreen Raceway, then known as Mountain Speedway. Tim joined the series and earned a few victories during that time.
In 2008, NEETS began presenting races at the dirt track of Grandview Speedway. It was an instant success scenario for Pauch as he instantly captured a win in 2008 and went on to win 24 career enduros and a multitude of championships at the speedway. He continued to support the track when the Outlaw Enduro Series took over in 2013.
During a majority of Tim's Grandview career, he utilized the same car. He was heartbroken when he needed to sell it, however, purchased another car for competition during the later stages of his career. Tim was an amazing mechanic and could put three cars into one just to make it race ready. He was also highly respected in the pit area as he was usually helping his fellow racers prior to the start of the night's festivities and giving out advice to the competition. A soft spoken gentleman, Tim was quick to point out why he enjoyed racing at the 1/3 mile dirt oval in Bechtelsville PA, "Grandview Speedway is a great place to race".
On Sunday Oct 15, Tim Pauch would have turned 64 years old. This Friday evening, the big car division will compete in a 105-lap enduro. Tim was the master of 100-lappers and his car number was five. No doubt, Tim will be celebrating a birthday and looking down proudly while we honor his memory and racing career.
Outlaw Enduro Series Outlaw Enduro Series is a racing series that takes place at Grandview Speedway.
