Jack Green’s journey into rowing began back in the scorching summer of ‘97 when his buddy Jamie Doyle convinced him to take a shot at being a lifeguard. Little did Jack know, that decision would set him on a course toward rowing greatness.
As fate would have it, they stumbled upon a boat and before they knew it, they were immersed in the exhilarating local race scene. But it wasn’t until Jack crossed paths with the legendary Bob Asay that his passion for rowing truly ignited. Bob’s shop became Jack’s haven, a place where the allure of surf boat culture captivated him entirely.
Before long, Jack found himself rubbing shoulders with the titans of Asbury Park rowing: Bob Asay, Mick Fiedeck, Paul “BUG”Elyseev and John Cullen. It was with Cullen in the scorching summer of 2021 that Jack delved into the strategic depths of rowing, learning the intricate dance of tactics on the water.
But Jack’s thirst for knowledge didn’t end there. The following season, he joined forces with Dave Healy, absorbing every nuance of rowing and training that Dave could impart. And in the summer of 2004, Jack forged an indelible partnership with Paul “BUG” Elyseev, forming the formidable duo known as Team Green Bug.
For two decades, they were top competitors both the local circuits and the national stage. Yet, Jack’s hunger for challenge remained insatiable. In 2023, he teamed up with Jeff Mandell for the JSRA Race series, a collaboration that saw them triumph in three races and clinch the coveted title of overall top point scorers.
And now, as the dawn of the 2024 JSRA Race series approaches, Jack Green stands poised on the brink of greatness. With victories already under his belt in the grueling Key West 12 Mile row and the demanding Gene Bergman 10 Mile row in Ft. Lauderdale, anticipation crackles in the air. We can’t help but eagerly await the spectacle that Jack will unveil on the water this season.
