StickType
This is a blog about my second video game project, which is time-boxed to one-year (2017) and will be used as a test bed my for main video game project (MP1).
StickType is a one-man video game project. The game will be a simple stick-figure-based 2D side-scrolling platformer, and is time-boxed to one-year (2017): I'm starting on January 1st and would love to have it shipped by December 31st. Will it happen? Stay tuned. The history behind StickType: I started working on another project: Project MP1 three years ago (see: http://www.facebook.com/ProjectMP1
Quote from one of my booth visitors:
"ZombMe is everything fun about 90's platformers in a wacky comedic package of happenstances I stopped trying to predict. It's got a bit of that makes sense nonsense that drives Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. It's authentic as hell. I think it's a favorite because it's unapologetically itself.
The developer himself, Mike Palotas, is just as genuine and delightful. 11/10 worth visiting the booth just to meet him."
:O
Thank you Cody!
Almost to the PAX show. They've even got me, my game, and booth in the PAX Nav application!
Hopefully I make it all four days...but I'm guessing I'm going to be looking like these kittens at the end...

They just released the list of exhibitors for PAX WEST 24, and I'm in it! Very cool!
I guess I should start getting my game ready...less than one month to go....

ZombMe ZombMe is a indie-developed platformer video game which focuses on gameplay and fun characters.
I'm trying so hard to get this game done, but my brain keeps coming up with too many ideas that my fingers have to implement. Have a stage with a space elevator like Cybernator! Have a little jet that the zombie can get in and fly around like Top Gun! Have a bunch of floating platforms that you can jump flip across like Strider 2! Have a big enemy chase you while destroying the platforms like Mega Man 2! Have jets attack you from the background like Contra III! And then catch and throw nukes back at a big ship like....well....I don't think I've played a game where you've had to do that. So at least I'm not regurgitating everything. Still, I can spend all day implementing a LOT of game, and then end the day with MORE work remaining than when I started.
Sick of seeing a lot of weird random stuff from people you don't know on your page? Well follow my game blog and you can see a bunch of random stuff from somebody you do know. I update it every day on my progress to try and finish it by October. Will I make it or not? What's the latest Unity bug I'm trying to work around? Why does my player sometimes grow to five times his normal size when I jump? Will I ever figure out why bubbles are showing up when I shoot a missile? All sorts of weird video-game making stuff like that, on my page: ZombMe
Somebody suggested it, so I published all the music from StickType to a YouTube playlist. Check them out:

GREAT NEWS! ZOMBME just got accepted into ID@Xbox! What a great Christmas present! Thanks for everybody's support and help!
Charities that StickType donated to in 2022.
The free demo of my NEXT game, ZombMe, is now available for PCs and Xbox consoles everywhere! It's like StickType, but this time I added GRAPHICS! Please help get the word out (and, of course, try it yourself)!
The game features fast-paced 2D platforming action, foreground and background interactions, and old-school pre-rendered graphics. The twist? In this game, you try and stay DEAD...
Please check it out and give feedback as I finish the rest of the game--I'll be happy to add your name/gamertag to the game credits.

Back to Basics 2D Action

The history behind StickType: I started working on another project: Project MP1 three years ago (see: http://www.facebook.com/ProjectMP1/). MP1 is my long-term video game project and features many complex assets. Because of this, it will take a long time to complete. I thought it might be interesting to do an intermediate project that had much simpler assets, and thus StickType was born.
I'll be taking 2017 off from MP1 to focus on StickType. Goals include:
-Working on the game each day starting January 1st
-Using StickType as a test bed for the basic game engine from MP1
-Figuring out publish, legal, and launch logistics for a console video game
-Hopefully publishing a game to a console by the end of 2017!
-Document progress made each day on this page
-Donate any and all profit to animal charities
Let's see what can happen in a year!
