One-of-a-kind rock creations, stone & wood sculptures The Wishing Rock was inspired from a collaboration of my family & life adventures.
For years my husband, son & I made it part of our road trips, our adventures & holidays, to explore oceans & beaches, rivers & creeks for little hidden treasures. This ritual has filled our house lovingly with rocks discovered through the years. I cherish all the quiet times & peaceful moments shared, laughter & smiles & goofiness enjoyed. Meandering through wooded paths or strolling sandy beaches
with wagon & buckets in tow, anticipating how many & what kind of hidden gems we may uncover this time....this has all been The Wishing Rock inspiration. It wasn't until this past summer that I got inspired to actually make something of the stones we collect, shifting from mindless rock picking to obsessive rock hunting! I thrive in the creative process from finding rocks, with the anticipation of how they may come alive & reveal their unique story once they're wet, to staring at a piece of wood, mesmerized & waiting for the inspiration to emerge. From drudging countless buckets full of dirty, moldy rocks up river banks & forest paths, transporting from vehicle to garage, from garage to kitchen....then cleaning & scrubbing, lacquering & then lacquering some more. Endless hours scouring through my collections in search of the next perfect stone to capture my vision.....each piece I create is a true labor of love. It gives me such a sense of beauty & calm & appreciation for the little hidden miracles of nature that are everywhere around us, if only we take the time to see. This is the feeling I hope I can share with you & the story I hope I can tell in each creations, one stacked rock at a time.
