Jadawil

Jadawil

A course scheduling service for UAEU students. Updated every semester. Yes, that's it. It's better than magic. Do you like Jadawil? Yes?

Jadawil was made because its creator got tired of manually making a schedule every semester. As you know, that usually involves:

1) Visiting eServices and searching for each course,
2) Writing down the times and dates for each section of each course,
3) Checking and double-checking whether any conflicts exist,
4) And finally, after at least an hour, ending up with a workable schedule. Jadawil red

Good news: Jadawil is back online!

Homepage: http://jadawil.assil.me

The data for Spring 2020 is not yet up to date from UAEU’s side, so make sure to keep an eye out.

Since a lot of the code was changed, please let me know if you hit any problems.

Also, some courses and sections might be missing from the results since the new eServices fails to return data in many cases... Nothing I can do from my end other than hope the UAEU IT folks fix it!

‪So Jadawil recently broke due to the new eServices/Banner design.

What this means is that Jadawil will not work for any semester after Fall 2019.

I spent a few hours “reverse engineering” the new design, and finally have basic code that can download course data.

What is left is to integrate this logic into the overall Jadawil app. I’m hoping that everything will be back to normal within 2-3 week.

Thanks for your patience!

The course data for Spring 2018 was added this week. Have fun making your schedules :)

Update to the website for Sept/Oct:

- Added an option to easily find general courses depending on your major.

Say you have an empty slot for a course next semester but don't know what general course to take. Simply visit Jadawil, select your major, and then enter the time range you'd like the course to be in. After hitting "Submit", you will get a nice list of general courses that fit in the given time period!

The feature was added by a fellow Electrical Engineering student at UAEU, Bilal Hejase.

As always, once course data Spring 2017 is released, I will push out an update to the site for your benefit.

Enjoy!

I just setup a new domain name for Jadawil to make accessing it easier.

How many courses are you taking this semester? Let's see who has the most complex schedule!

25/10/2015

Course data for Spring 2016 is now online.

09/05/2015

The final exam data for some courses has been added to eServices. Jadawil will now notify you of any conflicts in final exam times of these courses.

04/05/2015

Jadawil now supports checking final exam conflicts. They will not work for Fall 2015 yet as the exam data has not been added to eServices.

When the data becomes available, you'll be able to see any exam time conflicts at the top of the Results page. You'll still be able to generate schedules.

Enjoy!

Added a Discussion section to the bottom of the home page, powered by Disqus. Post whatever you like there:

- Share your schedules
- Discuss courses
- Leave feedback on the site
- And whatever else you feel like saying!

I've just made some changes to the Jadawil homepage. Check it out and tell me what you think.

P.S. I'm a terrible designer :(

The introductory video has been updated. Let's admit it - the old one was really bad. This one should explain things more clearly. Enjoy!

The course data for Fall 2015 has just been added. Enjoy and please spread the word!

08/11/2014

The course data has been updated for Spring 2015 and a small feature has been added that allows you to access data for previous semesters. For now it's only Fall 2014.

I am planning on working on a better and faster version of UAEU's new course catalog (http://www.uaeu.ac.ae/en/course_catalog.shtml). From there, since I will have access to the university's course data, I might be able to build the degree planner website I've been thinking about for some time.

More news soon...

10/10/2014

I'm thinking about setting up dedicated hosting and renting a proper domain name for Jadawil. However, according to the visitor stats, the website is still not used by enough students. If you have any suggestions regarding how to spread the word more effectively, please share them.

What kind of features would you like to see in the future?

A Quick Guide to Constant CRNs
=========================

One of the courses you're taking next semester is Calculus I (MATH 1110). You would like to only include two sections in the results because they are taught by a professor your friends recommended.

To do just that, all you need to do is copy-paste the CRN(s) (ex: 21777) of the two sections into the "Constant CRN" fields. Jadawil will then only take these two sections of Calculus I into consideration when it attempts to find suitable schedules.

Another scenario could be that one of the Calculus I sections is at 8 am and you want all of your classes to start at 10 am. In that case, you could include all CRNs except for the section that starts at 8 am.

I'm hoping to further refine this feature in the near future, but for the time being it should work fine.

The course list for Fall 2014 is out. I've updated the course data on Jadawil so you can start making your schedules.

If you encounter any bugs or inexplicable behavior, please don't hesitate to send a message.
