PREVENTION
City of Refuge Ministries is working to not only rescue children out of child slavery but also to prevent children from being sold. We are doing this by empowering single mothers who are vulnerable to selling their children. In 2010 we began to take steps to try to eliminate one very specific component from the cycle of child trafficking, vulnerable single moms living in both lake and c

LAST DAY AT BEJAMSE!

We wrapped up our medical screening outreach at our Mission House in Bejamse, and what a day it was! Despite the rain, our community came out in full force to receive medical care and love.

We're grateful for the opportunity to serve and make a difference in the lives of those we've grown to love. It's been an incredible journey, and we're thankful for every moment spent here.

As we pack up and head home, our hearts remain with the people of Bejamse. We'll be back!

We're overjoyed to announce that our young men and women have completed the Coming of Age program! It's been an incredible week, witnessing their bravery and growth as they embrace their faith and purpose.

Today, we gathered at church to honor and celebrate their journey. We prayed for their continued guidance and wisdom, and their parents presented the ladies with purity rings and the men with purity bracelets - a beautiful symbol of their commitment to God and themselves.

We're amazed at how God is already working in their lives, and we can't wait to see the incredible things they'll achieve!

Day 4: Cooking Up a Storm!

After a morning at the market, our young adult, took to the kitchen to put their new skills to the test! With confidence and creativity, they cooked up a delicious meal, experimenting with flavors and techniques.

We're beaming with pride as they continue to grow in independence and self-sufficiency. Bon appétit!

Day 4: Learning Life Skills

Today, our young adults took a step towards independence as they visited the market to learn the art of grocery shopping! They discovered how to select fresh produce, navigate prices, and make smart purchasing decisions.

With guidance from our mentors, they acquired essential skills in buying food items for cooking, a crucial aspect of self-sufficiency. This hands-on experience will benefit them as they prepare for their future.

We're proud to see them grow and develop valuable life skills that will serve them well in years to come.

Day 2: “Coming of Age”

Today, our young adults embarked on a journey of self-discovery and growth. They participated in Career Assessment lessons, uncovering their strengths, interests, and talents.

We delved into Bible passages that taught us about the power of self-control, guiding us to make wise choices and decisions that align with our values.

In worship and prayer, we sought God's guidance and wisdom, asking for clarity on our future paths and purposes. We prayed for courage to pursue our dreams and make a positive impact in the world.

As they navigate this pivotal stage in life, we're committed to supporting and equipping them with the tools and wisdom needed to thrive.

Photos from City of Refuge's post 06/08/2024

Day one of our "Coming of Age" program has begun!

In Doryumu, traditional puberty rites often lead to teenage pregnancy and harm. But we're changing that narrative!

Our "Coming of Age" program offers a positive alternative, equipping 19 young men and women to:

Live Godly lives
Build character
Develop life skills

Join us in celebrating these amazing students as they embark on this transformative journey!

Today marks the final chapel service for the term at Faith Roots International Academy!

We ended the term on a high note, reflecting on John 5:1-5, the story of the man healed at the pool of Bethesda. May the promise of God's healing and restoration be our portion as we head into the break.

May we carry the hope and assurance of Jesus' presence with us, and may His grace be our constant companion.

Thank you to our chapel speakers, teachers, and staff for making this term a memorable one.

Help Support 2024 Coming of Age Program 30/07/2024

This summer, August 4-11, we are hosting our next batch of Coming of Age Candidates. Students participate in lessons on integrity, self-control, obedience, justice, and courage during their week-long adventure. They learn new practical skills in budgeting, preparing for the workforce & careers, learning to budget and prepare meals, and tools they can use moving into senior high school and university environments. They have opportunities to walk in vulnerability with each other, experience healing prayer and worship, participate in excursions and service projects, and be poured into by leaders from around the globe.

Our next batch of students includes seventeen really cool young men and women. The majority of the participants are from CORM, including kids who were brought to CORM as infants and are now young men, kids who were rescued from trafficking and now call CORM home, and even a couple newly arrived teens placed by social welfare. Two fabulous young women from the community attending our junior high program at Faith Roots will also join the group. Their parents or grandparents signed them up, recognizing their need for a Christ-centered call into adulthood. We are so excited to help them grow and learn and to walk with them toward the future that God has called them to!

Our long-term ministry partner, Heartbeat for Africa, is sending a team to Ghana to help facilitate this year's Coming of Age program. The team includes several of our staff, our director's team, and some of our own graduated university students! But we need your help to make this possible for these 17 young adults!

First and foremost, we need your prayer covering. This week can be challenging and emotionally and physically exhausting for some of these kids. We have seen all kinds of things come forward over the years--from confessions to healings, rebellion to restoration, resistance to vulnerability, apathy to great depth of faith. We want what God wants for these candidates. They not only face their fears during this week, but they also face their future. We want to see God's good work in their lives and as they move forward into all He has for them! Would you help hold these students up in your prayers?

Secondly, we would like your partnership. Each student's participation in the program costs City of Refuge Ministries approximately $300. These students have so many opportunities this week, and we would love to have some partnerships to help us prepare to celebrate these young teens and send them into adulthood, where they will be well-equipped with a biblical understanding of who they are in Christ.

Will you partner with us to provide this life-changing experience to our youth?

Help Support 2024 Coming of Age Program Provide life changing experiences that will shape our teens into adults In the community of Doryumu, a common puberty rites practice is performed for young women called Dipo. Day 3
Today, we returned to the community of Hausa Kope. Our mission was to renovate one of the classrooms at the local school, providing a better learning environment for the children.

As we worked, we were surrounded by the eager faces of the kids, curious about our every move. We also got to spend some quality time with them, sharing games, laughter, stories, and moments of joy.

Seeing the smiles on their faces and the sparkle in their eyes reminded us of the true meaning of our mission. It's not just about renovating a classroom, but about investing in the future of these precious children.

We're grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in their lives and to be a part of their story.

Day 2: Hausa Kope Community Outreach

Today, our team ventured to Hausa Kope, a community nestled near the Volta Lake. We were privileged to conduct health screenings and share God's love in practical ways.

But what struck us most was the profound impact this community had on our team. As we served, we were reminded of God's immense love for us and the incredible potential each of us has to make a difference in the lives of others.

We're grateful for the opportunity to be a blessing, but also for the blessing we received from this incredible community. May we continue to be vessels of God's love and kindness wherever we go!
