The American Psychological Association has just released the results of its 2023 Life at Work survey, and things are not looking great.
The significant impact of work on our mental health has been obvious to mental health professionals forever, and it's finally being widely acknowledged. Nonetheless, as the results show, there is room for improvement.
➡️1 in 5 U.S. employees report working in a toxic environment.
➡️Those working in toxic environments were twice as likely to report fair or poor mental health.
➡️Only 43 percent of employees report that their employers provide health insurance with coverage for mental health and substance use disorders.
➡️22 percent of workers have experienced harassment at work in the past 12 months.
➡️22 percent say they experience discrimination in the workplace.
➡️43 percent of employees believe that if they told their employer about a mental health condition, it would have a negative impact on them at work.
Positive news:
➡️77 percent of workers reported being satisfied with the support they receive from their employers for their mental health and well-being.
➡️72 percent agreed that their employer helps employees develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
