She's the First at The Catholic University of America
Fifty million girls are out of school worldwide and as Catholics we should never underestimate our ability to change that.
We are the independent Catholic University of America chapter of She’s the First, a not-for profit organization that sponsors girls’ education in low-income countries. Catholic University of America is rooted in the idea of ‘Cultivating Catholic Minds’. In order to do so we must invest our community, empathy, passion, and enthusiasm to make a lasting difference in the lives of others. She’s the Fi
rst not only brings to light the struggle facing young women around the world, but also the value that education has in creating a better future for one’s self. This understanding of the power of knowledge, and self awareness of one’s potential is a critical moment one must experience in the course of their schooling. STF creates a deeper level of appreciation to sit in a classroom, boosting the morale of students from Gibbons to O’Boyle. She’s the First will make our campus a global community. Our Catholic identity teaches us to be compassionate and generous citizens that can be role models in a global community. Vulnerable students that we sponsor through STF thrive when they have a role model to show them what's possible. That's why STF works with partners who believe in targeted, curriculum-based mentorship to provide ongoing support and interventions as needed on an individual basis. STF Scholars are part of an international network, all working toward a more equal world. They participate in STF’s Global Awareness Program, along with students from our campus program, to become more informed about the issues facing women and girls worldwide—and what actions they can take.
