One of the more alluring aspects of cement tiles are how, with time, they gently age and grow into a space. Almost like magic, they seem to absorb the days, decades, and centuries of vibrant activity that surround them, taking on the texture of lifetimes.

There is, however, a limit to how much life we want to throw into our tiles at a time, and we’ve got some daily maintenance tips to help keep your cement tiles looking fresh and aging gracefully.

Spot our Thule handprinted wallpaper in “Orkney”!

— For our Urban Oasis project Primary Bathroom, we were tasked with the challenge of incorporating specific laundry-related needs within a tight space, so we designed this custom cabinet which cleverly tucks the ironing board away and provides extra hanging space for drying clothes.

The space, with its light teal watery tiles and cool wallpaper, maintains a spa-like feel when everything’s put away and out of sight!

Swipe left to see how the ironing board disappears...

Did you know Alice Roosevelt had such a cultural following as young woman that she had a color named after her? “Alice Blue” is a “pale tint of azure” that was popularized by the fabric of some of her favorite dresses.

Shown here: Emily Spinach hand-printed wallpaper in lovely ‘Alice Blue.’

Cement tile is the perfect surround for a free-standing tub (in this case, an old clawfoot). Bringing the tile up the walls sections off the bathing area while simultaneously pulling you in with playful pattern—even in a tiny space.

Our cement tiles are capped here with one inch marble pencil tile, which is a great alternative to bullnose or a metal Schluter edge trim. And if you peek the paint, it’s from the lovely 🩵

Introducing Emily Spinach, our second new handprinted wallpaper for the 2024 Mischief Maker Collection! 🐍

Inspired by Alice Roosevelt, the delightfully rebellious eldest daughter of President Theodore Roosevelt. At turns doted on and chided by her resolute father, Alice was a handful whose antics charmed the American public. Lauded as “Princess Alice,” she raced cars through the streets of Washington, smoked ci******es on the roof of the White House, carried a pet snake in her purse to formal parties (named Emily Spinach, our pattern’s namesake), and snuck mini bottles of whiskey in her gloves to dry events. Her popularity was celebrated by the naming of her very own color, Alice Blue, and at one point she received so many adoring letters that the White House had to allot a separate secretary just to manage them all.

Her independence was striking, particularly in an era when women were still considered largely ornamental. One of her father’s famous lines was, “I can do two things. I can be President of the United States or I can control Alice Roosevelt. I cannot possibly do both.”

Our serpentine damask is an ode to this headstrong woman who expertly toed the line between decorum and rascality. A bonafide mischief maker who often exasperated her father, but enchanted the world.

Introducing the first pattern from our new Mischief Maker Collection! Our Digby wallpaper is inspired by the intrepid Jane Digby el-Mezrab. Born into an early Victorian upper-crust family, Jane married young, divorced thrice, was a lover to kings and princes, and died in Syria at a decently ripe age happily married to her true love: a bedouin Shiekh 20 years her junior named Medjuel el-Mezrab. You could find our Digby floral print right at home on a parlour wall in Dorset and a Damascene cottage alike.
