Woohoo 🎉⛵️🥂❤️

🏆MAIDEN WINS THE OCEAN GLOBE RACE 2023-24

On Tuesday 16 April 2024, in a brisk northerly breeze the iconic yacht and her young all female crew from around the world crossed the finishing line at 1152hrs completing the 4th and final leg of the Ocean Globe Race. Seven months away from home; sailing over 28,500 nm and 154 days at sea making more Maiden history 35 years after Tracy Edwards, Maiden and her all female crew proved women sailors were as good as any male sailor in the 89/90 Whitbread Race.

The last leg was a difficult and frustrating one for Maiden, not the longest leg in miles but the longest time at sea during the whole race with the leg ranking 5th in line honours and provisional 5th in IRC with corrected elapsed time. With all legs combined, until earlier this morning (Monday 22 April) Maiden held 2nd place overall. Their closest rival Triana who were in 1st place needed to finish around 0600hrs today to retain their lead, which they did not manage to do; with the IRC overall lead Maiden is the winner of the Ocean Globe Race 2023-2024 - an awesome achievement.

Maiden’s legacy will live on – during the six year World Tour Maiden has continued the battle for equality for the next generation empowering and inspiring thousands of girls; raising awareness and funds for charities and communities around the world to ensure that girls have access to education whatever their background to enable them to follow their dreams and build better futures.

Note that the tickets include all lunches and morning tea (and all-day tea and coffee). Meet Ms. Juliet Sidi Menza - who I believe is likely Kenya's first woman marine mechanic! I recently had the pleasure of meeting Juliet in Kilifi and being invited to the opening of her workshop.

Determined to become a marine mechanic, Juliet moved to Kilifi in order to get a job at the Kilifi Boatyard. This young woman has a passion for engines, infinite curiosity, and lots of determination to succeed.

After working a full day at the Boatyard, Juliet goes back to her workshop and works every evening troubleshooting and repairing outboards brought to her by local fishermen.

Latest update!

ETA UPDATE..ENGLISH/FRENCH: .THE WIND IS HOLDING! Kirsten messaged her mandatory 100 mile out ETA as Today 27th at 1500UTC or 5pm local time. She is on fire holding 6.9kts for many hours! she does not know the wind will soften a little in the afternoon. At that time my estimate is she will be about 24 miles off Les Sables d'Olonne and making between 2-3.5kts so official GGR ETA around Midnight local time or 2200hrs UTC Thursday 27th. Abhilash 100 miles behind may arrive around 0800hrs UTC or 10am on Saturday 29th. Simon may arrive around 13-1400hrs UTC or 3-4pm local today 27th!! will update again during the LIVE TRACKER UPDATE 0800 UTC or 10am local :)

KIRSTEN TWEET....hey don. just read have to provide eta when within 100nm. now 100nm. eta. 15z tomorrow but who knows. k

ABHILASH TWEET...Visibility less than half a mile. Everything is cold and damp. Cant sleep.
