A Nana prepares Ukulele Club Liverpool
What’s behind today’s Nanadvent door? A wee shout for the fab Ukulele Club Liverpool who have helped me with me ukulele skills along the years. I’ll be hosting their annual Chrimbo do tonight raising cash for Owen McVeigh Foundation with the wonderful Splintered Ukes headlining OOOKOOOLAYLEEEEEEE FUUUUN
Todays Nanadvent calendar door opens on to my wee Crowdfunder for the Tough Old Bird 2024 tour which I am self funding due to funding for theatre being incredibly challenging. Check out the link https://fb.watch/oKQ7WiJ--P/ to see the fab thank you presents on offer & any donation is greatly appreciated. Thank you to all of you who have donated so far!! Tickets for the unity theatre show on 20th Jan are on sale now with ticket link in the Crowdfunding page.
Tough Old Bird explores how women are viewed in society as they have the absolute gall to get older! Have you ever noticed those adverts promising to ‘defy the effects of ageing’? Ooh Nana hates them. What about when we get old? Where’s the instruction manual? Who deems what is ‘acceptable behaviour’? What happens when your voice isn’t listened to, or you become slowly invisible?
I am absolutely delighted to be joining the rather marvellous Official Tony Blaney for his Swinging into Christmas at Peter Kavanagh’s on 23 December. It’s going to be SO CHRISTMASSY!!! From 9pm til late…and totes free. Sod the present wrapping come & get your chops round some swinging tunes
Crowdfunder update - thank yous are up on me website (link below) & signed photos have been emailed to everyone who’s donated £10 and more. If you don’t receive them (or a message asking for your email address) let me know. Videos will be coming soooooon. Happy Sunday all

Many of you may or not may know that I was recently unsuccessful in my Arts Council application for the next steps for my show Tough Old Bird. You also may or many not know that the next steps are a national tour...that is already booked in. So guess what? We're still doing it! The theme of the show is so important and I truly believe that we need to keep the conversation about ageing going...so, this is where you come in. Touring a show to this scale, and making sure everyone is paid properly, doesn't come cheap so we need some support covering our costs and have launched a crowdfunder. I am very aware that money is tight for everyone, so any amount at all will help. Sharing the crowdfunder is also super helpful (especially if you've got a lovely rich relative...). https://gofund.me/780aa675
Thank you so much in advance and I can't wait to bring Tough Old Bird to you again!
"This show is something I would love to see again and would bring my friends and family to see. It really is heartwarmingly hilarious"
"One feels it should be a mandatory watch for anyone over the age of 40"

On the train to mayhem! Pound Arts
Having a little practice of Ask Nana ahead of my debut at the Mayhem Cabaret at Pound Arts tomorrow. To do that I use questions that I didn’t get round to answering at old gigs…I wonder how drunk Sara Cassidy & Ian were by 10.30 that night at Summer Strum. In the song I just sang in answer to the question I thought they’d probably be very tipsy after a sniff of a pint as they were so busy making everything so boss for all of us ❤️
I am VERY excited about the Magic and Mayhem Cabaret at Pound Arts on Saturday. The line up is AWESOME!!! I’m very chuffed to be on it.

This week's community shout out is for another group that I met whilst doing the The Lowry Sunday Show Selector earlier this month. Talk About It Mate is a Manchester based social enterprise offering creative approaches to mental health and championing peer support in our everyday lives. As well as Talk About It Mate they also have Walk About It Mate, Proud About It Mate and Talk About It Women to reach out to as many people as possible. Check them out for their different groups!
Todays community shout out is for Women with Wings CIC who I met at The Lowry Show Selectors a few weeks ago. They empower & motivate women in Manchester by offering Wellness Services & Events & Business Support. This week they are celebrating women’s achievements on Fri 27th at St Paul’s Peel Parish Hall, Little Hulton as part of Black History month. Check them out 💜

I thought I’d do some shout outs to the fab organisations that I’ve hosted and performed for recently to highlight just how awesome they are! First off Art & Soul Tribe - “A world where individuality is celebrated, diversity is encouraged & everyone has their chance to shine.”
Using a person centred, trauma informed approach, they use the Arts as a safe and engaging tool to encourage and teach people to share their stories, have their voices heard and empower others to do the same.
Through a programme of community connection, skills building, formal tuition, advocacy and peer mentoring they aim to improve Mental Health & Reduce Stigma.
Based in Deeside they run a multitude of in person & online workshops & groups. Check out their page for more details
