This Diwali our Brightstarters organised a Craft Exhibition to spread joy and cheer. They had been busy for a week making d-i-y craft projects and designing jewellery, bangles and creating working models. A huge thanks to the parents who visited the exhibition and encouraged the children.
The Roots Family wishes you all a very Happy Janmashtami!

Mother's Day card making activity 😊 Happy Mother's Day to all Super Moms out there!
The senior Brightstarters were fortunate today to interact with and learn from eminent artist Shri Soumitra Dasgupta. He is an internationally acclaimed artist and has been the Creative Consultant for the hugely successful children's TV series "Galli Galli Sim Sim". Soumitra dada, as we lovingly call him, is taking a series of art workshops at Roots Brightstart for students & teachers and will have an interactive session with the parents on Saturday (27th April). His deep love for children is evident in the way they flock to him and interact freely with him. We at Roots are looking forward to receiving more guidance from him.
Tiny 3 year olds on their first day of school 🙂 We are blessed to have them with us! 💕
As the new session commenced yesterday, I was going through some of my old recorded observations on the laptop when an entry took me back 2 years. I somehow never got around to sharing it, but today I will.
There was this boy in grade 5 in our school who had had a burn accident when he was very young. As a result, he had poor body balance and couldn’t run. One winter afternoon, I was standing outside trying to catch some sunshine and it was the games period for grade 5. This boy walked up to me and said, “Ma’am I want to play but they won’t let me.” I asked the other kids why they weren’t including him in their game. “Ma’am he can’t run, he might fall.” “Never mind,” I said, “you too fall down sometimes while playing. If he falls, he’ll get up. It’s ok.” They laughed and called him to join them. They were playing “Oonch Neech” (I’m sure you do remember the game from your own childhood). The moment this boy joined their game, someone called out, “The last to join is the den”. I was tempted to tell them it wasn’t fair. But decided to let it pass. Let him learn to handle it just as other kids do. Out of curiosity I started observing them. In a few minutes, this boy had managed to catch a classmate. Just as he tried to step up on the stairs to avoid getting himself out, another child called out, “All of you listen! He doesn’t need to climb the stairs. Even if he places one foot on the stairs, it’s acceptable.” The others agreed and this boy happily carried on playing. I was so surprised at the children’s thoughtfulness and compassion. It made me wonder just how deep this feeling of empathy runs in these children. How amazing it is that a bunch of 10 year olds know and understand that the rules of a game can be modified to accommodate a friend! After all, what’s the point of producing highly competitive self-centred children? Isn’t the true purpose of education grooming children into kind, thinking, helpful individuals who’d rather stand by their friends than look for chances to pull them down? I don’t take credit for instilling these values in them because I do strongly believe that all children are inherently kind and considerate. All that we adults need to do is to recognize, appreciate and preserve these values. So go easy on your children if they didn’t score an A+ on that test. Appreciate the little acts of kindness they do everyday. The world really does need more of that! 😊
Childhood is precious... Don't let it end too soon.
Children may not listen to what you SAY, but they will always follow what you DO...
Kids grow up real fast so enjoy every moment while you can!
Your child's teachers work as hard as you to make sure your child succeeds 🙂
It can't get clearer than this...Parents please be conscious of how much screen time your child has. Let's not technology to hamper the development of our kids. Keep them away from smart devices till atleast age 5- the smart devices will only dumb them down.
