Seniors and Senior Parents,

Remember that the Greater Jefferson County Foundation Scholarships are due on Thursday, Feb 15. The ones that need to be turned in by hand, should be turned in to the main office by 3:00 PM. The one application for 14 scholarships online is due by 4:00 PM. Remember to put in your parents' Adjusted Gross Income in scholarships that ask for your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). This is because FAFSA is not releasing that information back to anyone yet. There are some great scholarships in the Greater Jefferson County Foundation scholarships like the Ralph Perry Scholarship. There are 6 winners of $5,000 each. The Ruth Sellars Scholarship and the Scott & Edith Jordan Scholarship are both worth $5,000 and are open scholarships. https://sites.google.com/fairfieldsfuture.org/scholarships/greater-jefferson-county-foundation-scholarships

Please see below from the Greater Jefferson County Foundation. We have been in contact with them about the issues with FAFSA this year. On any Greater Jefferson County Foundation Scholarship that asks for your EFC (Expected Family Contribution) please put your Parent's Adjusted Gross Income in that spot. They are doing this due to no one getting their EFC back this year and now you will probably not get them until sometime in March. If you need any help with this, please see Mr. Epperson and Mrs. Steward

Do this same thing on your Local Scholarships. We will explain to the donors why and what is going on. Thank you.

Hello Counselors,

In light of the information received this week regarding FAFSA, the Foundation Scholarship Committee has agreed to forego the EFC requirement on the FAFSA this year.

However, the students MUST include their parent's AGI information for 2022. Not all of the scholarships are based on financial need, but it is required information in the online application.
Line 8b on your parent's adjusted gross income where you are listed as a dependent
Those students who can get their EFC from the FAFSA before the March 1st FAFSA info deadline can go ahead and contact the Foundation office with that information.

The deadline for all Foundation applications is still February 15 at 4:00 PM for the 2024 scholarship season.

And as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me!

Thank you and thanks to the students for their patience!

Today Cambridge came and talked to interested Juniors and Seniors about future internships and jobs that might interest our students. Cambridge talked about the variety of jobs they have, different educational levels of jobs, opportunities for learning on the job, and advancing within the company. Matt Jones, our Work Based Learning Coordinator, set up this opportunity for our students. It is part of his initiative for students to learn more about our local companies and jobs available to students right out of high school or after college. January is “College and Career Awareness Month” and Cambridge was the first company to come and talk to our students. Next week, Agri Plastics, Dexter, and Schaus Vorhies will all have an opportunity to come and visit with students as well.

We have been in communication with the Greater Jefferson County Foundation about the FAFSA process this year and have told them about how you are not being told you EFC or SAR (I believe this is the new term) right away and that it could take weeks or longer to learn it. For this reason, they just sent us this message:

ATTENTION SENIOR STUDENTS:

BECAUSE OF THE UPDATE OF THE FAFSA, THE DEADLINE FOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO FEBRUARY 15 AT 4:00 PM CST

THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF THE ESTIMATED FAMILY CONTRIBUTION (EFC) NUMBER IS MARCH 1.

YOU MUST SUBMIT YOUR ENTIRE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION BY FEBRUARY 15.

YOU MUST CONTACT THE FOUNDATION OFFICE WITH YOUR EFC NUMBER BY MARCH 1 (641-472-0758 (include your name and phone number) or email at [email protected]

FAILURE TO SUBMIT YOUR EFC NUMBER MAY JEOPARDIZE YOUR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

CONTACT THE FOUNDATION OFFICE WITH ANY QUESTIONS AT [email protected]

or call 641-472-0758

For this reason, we still suggest your Seniors work on the scholarships as much as they can and fill out everything but the EFC. Then when you get your EFC they may enter it and turn them in.

Also there is no school next Monday, Jan 15, please use your time wisely and work on scholarships so it is not rushed at the very end. Come see Mrs Steward or Mr Epperson if you have any questions.

Our coat rack is back! 🧥❤️ In the spirit of warmth and community, we've set up a Coat Rack in the main lobby area at JCHC, stocked with free coats for anyone in need. Winter can be chilly, and we believe in supporting one another.

If you or someone you know could use a little extra warmth this season, feel free to drop by the designated area and pick out a coat. We've got a variety of sizes and styles, generously donated by our amazing staff and community members.

Let's spread the warmth, not just within our hospital walls, but throughout our entire community. Share the news, tag a friend, and let's make sure everyone stays cozy this winter. 🌬️❄️
