“We think that it is the big moments that define our lives, the wedding, the baby, the new house, the dream job. But really, these big moments of happiness are just the punctuation marks. The narrative is written every day in the small and simple.” Sarah Ban Breathnach, author
One to remember mums 👍😍

20 Minute Morning Meditation | Self-Love + Gratitude By Darius Bashar
Hi to all our friends… Happy New Year!!
Hopefully you have had a smoother start to the year than ours here on the farm.
A few days ago our new header burnt to a crisp with only half of our harvest done. Not optimal….
What surprised me was how easily the skills I have been learning and practicing over the past 10 years kicked in and we remained relatively calm in the adversity.
So grateful to the Clare Medical Centre for
introducing Mindfulness to our community and me 10 years ago.
Term 1 will be the only time we run this year so if you’d like to join us please get in contact.
See flier Xx Melanie (and Michelle)
Come and join us in 2023 Xx
We will be running our next lot of mindfulness classes in Term 1, 2023.
At this stage these will be the only classes for 2023 so make sure you jump on board if you are keen.
Another one from Get Grounded w/ Kerry Foreman.
Too good not to share.
Here’s to raising our awareness in 2023 ❤️
When I used to work solely with adolescents, I would always say to them....we are training for the olympics and I promise they are coming!
The "olympics" in my story was adversity.
I have never worked with a human who loves uncertainty.....forced change.....unpredictable.
All of us have brains primed to scan the room for danger. A part of us is trying it's best to get some firm footing by being able to see the change coming from miles away. It's working night and day to pinpoint when it will arrive and just exactly what we are gonna do about it. Sometimes it's just frozen, trying to become invisible....waiting for the change to hit.
That part of us is wasting today worrying about tomorrow.
Convincing itself it has some control in the matter.
It's wasting so much energy trying to force an outcome or control an outcome.
What if we trained for any outcome?
What if we learned more about what we are capable of when change comes?
What if we raised our awareness of how we behave in uncertainty and got curious about that?
What if....we created more Self energy and worked to regulate our nervous systems so that WHEN it does come, we are ready?
I know, you have everything already inside of you to handle uncertainty, change and adversity.....but do YOU know that?
Do YOU feel your strength?
Do YOU trust your capability?
Do YOU feel confident?
Let's make a list.....first, list all the unhealthy survival strategies you use to cope with fear of change. Things like....numbing with drugs or alcohol, scrolling your phone or laptop for hours, biting your nails, irritability, withdrawing from friends and family, overeating, lack of sleep.
Now, let's list your healthy coping skills.....things like, exercise, meditation, breath work, taking a bath, self compassion, curiosity, communicating your needs, positive self talk, reaching out to friends and family, a healthy sleep schedule, laying boundaries when needed.
Let's stop waiting in fear of adversity. Let's stop the "what if'ing" that part of us believes will be so helpful. Let's stop believing that we can stop change.
We can't.
Adversity and change are coming.
And we will be ready when they do.
2023 ❤️
I wrote this a couple of years ago….and I am noticing that today, while that part of me still peeks her head out….unsure, needing acceptance…..she is much quicker to trust that Self will lead us through this.
And she always does.
She always does.
Until about seven years ago, I was still internalizing other peoples unhealed responses to me.
I was twisting myself into a pretzel trying to understand.
I was trying to ask the right questions to clear a path for communication.
I was explaining my intentions....consistently.
I was still trying to do their work for them.
I was almost always left confused.
What on earth did I say?
What had I done?
Don't they know me better than that?
Then, one day....while having lunch with a peer.....she said "Oh girl, you just trust that they can take care of their needs. You can't do their work for them."
It sat there.....like a seed in my stomach.
Yes....I teach my clients this.
But, in me.....the old patterns slipped under the radar.
I was so used to internalizing others reactions, needs and feelings that it was merely sub-conscious and something I just fell into each time.
Until.....the seed began to bloom.
I am hard to offend. Always have been.
So while I was not taking things personally from family and friends, I was often getting caught in the loop anyway.
You know the loop....the one word text back. The silent treatment. Just enough space for you to begin to wonder....what did I do?
One day....I chose to pivot.
I chose to have unconditional belief that the people in my life could meet their own needs and if they were bothered by something I had said or done....they could articulate that to me. I would no longer hunt it down.
I chose to return to present moment over and over again when my brain wanted to spin a story about their lack of response or one word answer.
I chose to ignore social cues, instead trusting that the people in my life will find their words if it’s important.
I chose to hand back the weight they were asking me to hold. It's not mine. It always belonged to them. I can offer a hand from time to time...but I can not and I will not be left holding this heaviness.
I can not and will not do your work for you.
I chose to believe that the people I love will love themselves enough to show up for themselves.
And you know what?
They did.
In so many ways.....they did.
My pivot opened my eyes to how I was still participating in the loop and when I withdrew my participation......it was like a new picture began to form before my eyes.
It takes a bit....to form new communication patterns and to use new tools.
It takes a moment to love your people enough to let them be uncomfortable.
It takes some time....to love yourself enough to step out of the loop.
This is sure to be a worthwhile challenge in the lead up to Christmas.

I'm looking forward to offering this special 3-hour Mindfulness for Pain Masterclass with Mindfulness.com on 5 November. The session will go deeper that my usual workshops with a chance for a longer Q&A (which some of you have asked for), alongside space for teaching, guided practices and meditation. Our time online together will be well-paced with breaks (needed for me as much as you!).
On the Masterclass, you can expect to learn:
- Pain-relief skills that you can apply immediately
- The anatomy of breathing and how to use breathing for releasing tension
- The freedom of learning to live with choice, rather than being swept away by the pain
- Ways in which you can harness the power of your mind so it becomes a tool to enhance your life, rather than being a source of struggle and distress
When: 5 Nov, 5 - 8pm (UK time)
Where: Online

I hope you can join me!

A lovely meditation for some stillness this week.
16 minutes…
Wishing all our friends in mindfulness a safe and peaceful time this Christmas Xx
Meditation: Collecting and Quieting the Mind (16:48 min.) This meditation by Tara Brach guides us in relaxing the body, and then establishing the breath as a home base.
Love this from Emma Ward of Positive Outlooks about nature ❤️
As we walk through this time of unknown and uncertainty, I have found nature to be my source of comfort.
I have found my anxiety ease the more I lean into nature.
Nature helps to remind me that life is still peacefully operating as I watch the movement of the trees and birds, which in turn brings me peace.
The more time I spend outside, the calmer I feel.
I feel calmer as I sync into nature’s pace and the present moment.
Natures pace helps us to hear our inner voice that guides and nurtures us at this time.
Nature helps remind us to let go of the things we can’t control.
Nature reminds us that we can find peace and calm within any point of overwhelm in this unknown journey.
When you feel overwhelmed, try sitting outside and shifting your focus to the trees, plants and animals that surround. Give your body permission in that moment to come into the present and to take in all the small details within nature that surround you 🙏🏼
I took this picture while exploring the Myponga Reservoir Walk with a close friend recently. I could feel my body slow down its pace the longer we walked, and in turn I could hear my inner voice become stronger.
…and in this moment it reminded me of the magic of nature 💫
When was the last time you were in nature?
How can you find time in nature this week?
What does your inner voice want you to know during this unknown time?
