Adopted

Meet King, our last little guy left from the "B" litter! He is a 4 month old black male with a big heart and so much love to give his new people! He would love to have some kids and a big sister dog to play with!

He has had his age appropriate vaccines and he is microchipped. He is too young for us to neuter so he have an additional $600 refundable deposit on top of the $600 adoption fee.

Feel free to put in an application on our website if you are interested. Please note that we do not adopt to homes without a fence or if you have a dog of the same s*x in your home already.

•Pet your dog, all the time
•Talk to your dog, all the time
•Allow your dog to follow you, all the time
•Allow your dog to be on your lap or laying on your feet, all the time
•Pet, soothe, comfort your dog when it whines or barks for attention...or is simply anxious
•Allow your dog to demand affection/interactions
•Be emotionally dependent on your dog to the point that unhealthy dependency and interactions are no longer noticed
•Allow your dog to do whatever it wants, whenever it wants—aka, provide no structure, rules, or accountability
•Foster an environment of chaos, stress, and anxiety
•Refuse to train and pattern calmness
•Refuse to crate train your dog
•Refuse to correct your dog when inappropriate behavior occurs
•Refuse to train your dog how to be independent/alone by using a “Place” command, “Downstay, and/or “away” time in the crate
•Let your dog out of the crate when it whines or barks
•Avoid training or anything that makes your dog temporarily uncomfortable or unhappy—in other words, cater to your dog’s every desire/need, designing your life around your dog, rather than having your dog fit into yours
•And many, many more...

Basically, baby, soothe, allow, enable, disable, lean on, omit teaching necessary life skills, prioritize what feels good for you rather than what does good for your dog, and through this master plan of leadership-free chaos, and systematic cultivation of creating a toxic dependency between dog and human...you’ll ensure that when you leave, your dog will be a true emotional mess, because you haven’t prepared them to be calm, obedient, strong, resilient, robust, independent, and alone.

It looks like they all may have a home through previous adopters, but if any do become available we will go through applications or post them again. Until then will keep the cuteness coming!

I wasn't planning on announcing our new additions to the program until after they were here, but we're getting a new litter of young puppies on Thursday! I promise to share alllll the pictures of the sweet babies when they are settled in.

Working on the Amazon list today to update what we would need for them I see that a few things are actually on pretty good deals today and tomorrow if you have Prime. If you would like to help us care for these guys are the other dogs we have in our program we could use a few items! We mainly need cleaning/laundry supplies, but toys and treats never did a puppy wrong either! Puppies are so much fun, but the laundry is never ending!

Adopted

Meet Cami! She is a 6 year old Black Female looking for a new family after the unfortunate passing of her owner.

Cami is very sweet and kind. She loves people and has great manners! She's been around children and would do great with some older kids.

She had lived with cats in the past and doesn't mind the barn cats here that want to be all up in her space. She does really well with the male foster that she's been paired up with so she would enjoy a brother in her new home.

Cami is available for adoption now and can't wait to meet her new family. If you are interested in her please put in an adoption application on our website.

Who needs the happiest boy ever in their life? Meet Abel, a 2 year old Harlequin male.

Abel is a sweet and loving boy! He loves kids, but he is a little bouncy so not too little of kids.

He's great with the female dogs in his foster home and tends to do better when with another dog. He does have some separation anxiety without a companion. He would do well with a family that will spend time with him. He is crate trained and does well when left alone, but he does bark.

Abel has been around the cats in his foster home who are confident and won't take any crap from a dog and does well with them but I think he would chase a less confident cat that runs.

He has a good set of manners, knows his basic commands and walks pretty well on a leash!

Abel will be available at the end of the month after he has recovered from his neuter and pexy. He is vaccinated and microchipped. If you are interested please put in an application on our website.

Abel is located in Spokane, WA

Courtesy Post- This sweet senior is not in our Program so please contact the rescue listed below. Also note that this rescue is located in California.

Meet True North!

He's about 7 years young and weighs in at just under 115 lbs but definitely is working on gaining some weight. This gentle boy has been through so much! He came to us from the Central Valley, where he was originally found as a stray. Soon after we got him into our care, he tested positive for heartworm so we started him on treatment for that. This boy truly is such a special guy and has a happy-go-lucky personality despite all the vet visits! If anyone is interested in adopting True North, they can email us at [email protected].

True North is a lovable Great Dane who is hoping to find his perfect match! This sweet boy is the definition of a gentle giant. At home, he's wonderfully calm and relaxed, spending most of his time napping peacefully. But when he's awake, he can't wait to receive all the pets and cuddles.

True North absolutely adores making new four-legged friends. He's been very well-behaved at the dog park, though he does get a bit excited when he sees other pups and may pull on the leash. But he's already making great progress on his leash manners! In the neighborhood, True North is quite the local celebrity. Everyone loves seeing his friendly face around town. He's incredibly gentle with small dogs, though he may occasionally jump up when he's really excited. This big guy still has a bit of a puppy spirit!

True North is an active boy who loves going on long walks, sometimes up to 2 hours a day. But he's also just as happy to lounge around the house playing with his toys. He's very reliable, waking up between 7-8am to go outside and having his main potty break in the evenings. True North would prefer a home where someone is home more often than not while he starts working on his alone time training. If you're looking for a loyal, loving companion to join your family, True North might just be the one!

This gentle giant will bring so much joy and laughter to your home. Come meet True North today and see if he's the perfect match for you!

Not Great Danes, but sharing in hopes we have some Chese lovers out there!

UPDATE 8/17
We have had a huge response to adopt these puppies
At this time we are not looking for any new applications
Thanks for your understanding
Spokane area
*Urgent: Puppies in Need of Rescue**

These puppies are being surrendered by a breeder who owns only the female parent. Unfortunately, the breeder has been unable to sell or give away the puppies and is feeling overwhelmed. A concerned neighbor stepped in and posted an ad seeking help.

The breeder has been cooperative but is struggling financially and can no longer afford to feed the puppies. Neighbors have been buying food to help, but the situation is dire. The puppies, out of desperation and hunger, have wandered to other homes in the area and have tragically killed a couple of chickens.

We urgently need to find homes for these puppies before the situation worsens. They need a loving and stable environment where they can be properly cared for. If you can help by fostering, adopting, or supporting their care, please reach out immediately.

Update: This picture was taken 7/29/24 at 12:24pm. This is when they met and Uriee was handed off to them. If you know this couple, recognize the area, or see them…please call the CDA Police Department. The employees of Faithful K9 are not cooperating with authorities and are refusing to give the name of the people they gave Uriee to.

If you recognize this couple, please contact me immediately or CDA Police Department at 208-769-2200.

We believe they live in Washington.

To all of my friends and family in the Seattle area - please let me know if you know them.

There is reason to believe he has my stolen dog.

09/08/2024

A boarding and training facility in Coeur d Alene was recently shut down due to animal neglect and cruelty.

Unfortunately, one of my dogs was in that facility being cared for…while the owner was dealing with a family death.

They stole the dog, neutered him and put him up for adoption. They are not being cooperative with Animal Control or the Detectives.

We want Uriee back! Dixie Tantzen is affiliated with the facility that was closed by animal control and she is the one who removed/stole Uriee, neutered him and adopted him. She is a DOG THIEF!

I am looking for any information leading to his recovery.

You can call the CDA Police Department at 208-769-2200 with information or contact me directly.

Please help me get Uriee home!

It's that time of year that NWGDR compliles statistics of the Danes that our program had contact with. We send these statistics off to the Great Dane Club of America so that they can get an idea what is happening with the breed from the Rescue side. In return for our numbers we receive grants for veterinary care from the Charitable Trust.

We had 133 dogs this year, that's pretty close to our average number.

We took in 24, less than half of the average, but I was off for a bit with knee surgery. What really impacted those numbers was adoptions were low so we couldn't take in as many dogs. Average stay in rescue was around 6-8 weeks. Our average last year was 3 months. We just can't take in dogs if we can't move out what we have. Adoptions throughout the country are low.

40 of the dogs we saw were being surrendered due to economic hardships. Loss of jobs, can't afford to feed, loss of homes etc. These numbers have been increasing over the last couple of years, but never this high.

We have been seeing a rise in aggressive dogs over the years, this year there were 38 dogs that have either bit a human or attacked another animal. Many more were being surrendered due to anxiety with the fear that the dog would bite. This is sad because our breed was never like this before.

I took the time this year to go back to those aggressive dogs and see how many were unaltered. 28 of 39 were still intact. I am a big supporter of altering dogs after 6 months to prevent aggression that is often fueled by hormones. Seeing these numbers helps support my theory in not waiting til 24 months like so many say you should. We're not dealing with the same breed we had 20 years ago, sh*tty breeding practices have changed the temperament of the breed and has also allowed for a rise in general anxiety which leads to aggressive acts.

Last year we had 5 breeders approach us to take in litters that they were unable to sell. Hopefully people are starting to wake up and not buy backyard bred puppies, but my guess is that it's more fueled by the economy. We've never had breeders ask us to take puppies, so this is pretty alarming. We did take in one litter that was young and cute, and even at that it was difficult to place them and I still have one.

Overall it was a good year, we had good dogs, a lot of support from our friends and Dane family, and of course made a difference in the lives of many dogs.

Thank you to our amazing veterinary team at Deer Park Vet Clinic for all the wellness checks, vaccines, medical ailments, and surgeries.

Thank you to all of our Amazon supporters and those that donated to upgrade the outside kennels! You guys are an important part in making the lives of these dogs better!

Also a big thank you to our dog sitter who makes it possible for me to go off to work for 2 days a week and still foster dogs! Couldn't don't without you ❤️
