🌟✨ Exciting News Alert! ✨🌟

On Friday, February 16th, 2024, Girls Arise Uganda had the privilege of supporting the distribution of reusable pads to 60 amazing girls at Nawandala Primary School. 🎉 These young ladies, who are currently in P7, are gearing up for their national exams, and we are thrilled to be able to make their journey a little easier by providing this essential support.

The testimonials we heard from these girls were both heart-wrenching and inspiring. Despite facing numerous challenges, it's heartening to know that they won't have to worry about missing school due to lack of access to menstrual hygiene products for an entire year. 💪🩸 This is a significant step forward in ensuring that every girl has the opportunity to pursue her education without barriers.

We are immensely grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of these young girls, and we couldn't have done it without the support of our amazing community. Together, we are empowering girls to rise above challenges and reach for their dreams! 🌸💫

Exciting news! Thanks to the Bogatin Foundation, we've received a fresh supply of reusable pads. 60 girls in Tororo District can now kick off their academic year without worrying about missing school due to unavoidable circumstances like periods. And guess what? These pads last an entire year!

My Name Is Sandra Abbo

Born on the 26th May 1994, I am the last born out of a family of 6.

I studied in nabumali high school and later went to Makerere University where I studied bachelor's degree in development studies.

Growing In my community acted as an eye opener for me, I grew up in a community where girl child education wasn't a big deal, 80% of my child hood friends had babies by 16. Girls were(are) seen as trophies where the highest bidder takes the gift (bride price). The girls/ women had(have) no authority over anything, not even there own kids. The men decide what he wants his daughters to be, to do, or to marry. And in my setting, "a good daughter is one who listens and obeys everything his father says ". However as time went on, compulsory education came up and everyone was supposed to take his kids to school regardless of their s*x. The girls saw this as an opportunity of a life time but they didn't know what's waiting for them ahead. So in d next few years, girls enrollment to school increased by almost 80%, however by the end of the term they realised that almost half of the girls had dropped out, and the few in school were doing so badly compared to the boys.

In 2010, i realised I don't have friends in my village anymore, all had been married off and had kids, I was in shock because I thought the free education was going to really help.. After having a conversation with many of them, I realised menstrual issues were the first cause of there drop out. The pupils don't have any menstrual education which brings about a lot of stigma to one menstruating, the African taboos and myths on menstration were a problem too, but most importantly the lack of sanitary pads. The girls had to miss approximately a week of school every month to take care of the periods simply because they used rags, hides, and other pieces of cloth that can't enable them b comfortable at school.

All that being said, I told myself, I will make a change to this, and that's when I came up with the idea of girls arise.
