The Tasmanian Local Youth Government is held annually in the North and South of the State to allow young people to come together over two weekends to learn about and discuss local government. The first is a workshop day, providing educational content relating to local councils and applying this content to current issues within local council areas. This workshop day will be available in the North-W
est, North and South of the State, to encourage participation from a diverse cohort of young people. Students will then debate these issues the following weekend in a residential-style conference in Hobart. The program allows young people to meet with other like-minded youths to share ideas, build friendships and learn new skills. Participants are also exposed to experts in various fields, and to educational programs designed to give them advocacy skills and teach them about local councils. The program is organised and run by a dedicated youth Taskforce, and is supported each year by the Tasmanian Youth Government Association.
