Later on today we will be covering, how to combat "having no legal work experience"

04/04/2018

You asked we answered,

A secondment is the name given to temporary work that is assigned to an employee. Secondments are offered by many firms, the most important reason they are offered is to provide career development to help that employee with a certain skill to improve their CV. There are two different types of secondment, both very different to each other. Client secondments and International Secondments.

Client secondments generally last for 6 months (one seat of a TC) where the trainee joins the in-house team of one of the firm's clients. Such as banks, and nationwide charities.

An international secondment is a period of a training contract where you transfer to one of the firm's international offices! Generally these are only available in large city/international firms. International secondment allows you learn about different markets and ways of business.

When applying for Training contracts remember to research if the firm offers secondments and if it does make sure to mention why this appeals to you!

A re-post from our Instagram.
Please be really careful, students are so vulnerable when it comes to finding jobs and sometimes do jump at offers too good to be true.

I've just had a chat with SIMPLYLAWJOBS and there are people out there pretending to be them, offering law students with work experience for 12 weeks for £295- £995, please be careful and vet everything before you give anyone your hard earned money.

Please pass on this message and tag your other aspiring lawyer friends.

The police have been notified, however in the mean time please spread the word.

Our first post!
We know that most places don't accept a CV & Cover letter, however it is still essential to have well made CV. Here is our CV guide, this has been vetted by various graduate recruiters and lawyers from magic circle and silver circle firms!

As a small tip do remember when you're writing about experience, explain what you have learnt as opposed to what you did!

Hello Future Lawyers!

This is a new initiative made specifically for Non-Russell Group University aspiring lawyers (AL's). As a whole, diversity and inclusion is such an important thing and we feel that although the outlook of many firms/chambers is changing us students and graduates of non-russell group universities find it considerably harder to enter the legal profession. We absolutely love organisations such as Urban Lawyers, Aspiring Solicitors, Bright Network and will definitely be sharing their events and advice. Here at Aspiring Lawyers we are not looking to compete with these organisations but to bring things together.

We have seven little elves out back who are itching to fill this page with guidance, tips and various other fun things. We respond to all messages, so if you're having any trouble with anything legal please do drop us a message and we will get back to you ASAP! We hope to grow organically and by word of mouth- so please do tell your friends/tag your friends!

A few ideas for future posts include, places to volunteer, how to write a brilliant "non-generic" cover letter and what to do when you have zero legal work experience.

Please remember to like & share our page!
Thanks!
