Gab was always there anytime I needed advice and musically was a HUGE supporter of mine. He use to always push me to want to be better than I was the day before and also challenge myself musically. Anytime Blackalicious had a show and we would come out to support Gan use to say, “Young Dee! What you got for me. If I had a lanyard on with my album on it, he would put it on and rock the show with it. If I had cd’s or flyers with me he would give them to the crowd! Gab came out to Stockton on a Greyhound one summer and posted up in Stockton and recorded 3 songs at the legendary Hallway Studio when it was at Momz house. It’s crazy that Jay Fox is barely finding out about saying in a interview that ’s Bob Robbins is the reason he started rapping. It was his style, sound and the stuff he said that really made him want to rap. A lot of people, especially the younger generation have no clue on the influence that their small little city has had on the hip hop culture, mainly the rap/battle rap scene. It all started right up the street from my Momz house at the skatepark! Fox use to call me and say “Watch battle rap is going to take over one of these days just watch!” I was like, okaaay, whatever, if you say so! Dont get me wrong, it’s dope but I dont think it’ll ever make it to a big platform like rap is on or get enough exposure to actually break through worldwideThen he stated he wanted to put together his own battle rap scene for and in Stockton. I let him know I was already trying to get Paul Brinkley & Omar Aceo Smith to battle weeks prior but I was about to head out on tour so I drifted my focus. Fox was like ohhh watch what I do. He calls me back a few weeks later like I GOT IT and got people already on deck for , maaan you better stop playin and get on board. Watch we gone change the game with this, just watch!
