ISSUES, DOUSING THEM WITH KEROSENE, AN ICEPICK, AND A METAPHYSICAL SPIRIT“ - Avalos
I was honored when i was first approached to Direct this film because the stakes were really high and it involved the producers real life War PTSD & the horrors witnessed in human and child trafficking. I had to start with those components as the engine for the film and with only minutes to set up this trauma at the beginning of the film. I found a lot of inspiration from Lynne Ramsays brutal film “You Were Never Really Here” with similar subject matter and Neo-Noir because in the film he plays a detective not a soldier and playing with shadows is a great way to show your characters Trauma without having to vocalize it thru generic dialogue. i went with cinema verite for most of the camera work with our DP to give it a more real world feeling so we understand the traumatized detective on a very human level and if all that works then you can have disbelief in meeting the Bruja that avenges against human traffickers.
