In 2017 I'm determined to make myself uncomfortable

Pursue new things

Push myself to do things I didn't think possible

You see, only once we're uncomfortable are we capable of reaching our true potential. If you're comfortable it means you aren't pushing yourself hard enough

Tell me what I can't do this year and dammit I'll show you that yes I can

In 2017 be determined to make yourself uncomfortable

As we head into 2017 remember:
-
You don't need a big fancy expensive gym.
-
You don't need designer workout clothes.
-
20 year old equipment. Old school iron weights. Equipment beat up, rusty, and worn. But it will get you RESULTS.

It's not the gym or the clothes that determines if you succeed or not. YOU determine if you succeed.
-
Find a gym you feel most comfortable at.
-
Find a gym with a friendly, knowledgeable, helpful staff.
-
Work your ass off.
-
Do all that, you'll see results.

As we are are approaching the new year I am seeing a lot of people talking about how ready they are for 2016 to be behind them.
That 2017 is going to be their year.
I think this is a common occurrence every year.....
So here's some advice, I plan on taking myself as well.
If you want 2017 to be your year.
Don't sit around and wait for s**t to happen.
Go out and make things happen.
Make a change.
Make a move.
Try new things.
Remove some clutter from your life
Remove negative people as well.
Show more gratitude.
Be humble but hustle even harder.
Be the change you want to see in the world.
If you want something go get it.
Don't expect anything to be handed to you, because you will wait a lifetime.
So here is to 2017, the year that we finally take control and make it a year it remember.
The best things in life are never easy.

Be it fitness goals, professional goals, or even the best relationships all require hard work.

Will there be hard times, yes.

Will it be scary at times, yes.

Is there a chance you could fail or get hurt, yes.

But don't EVER let that stop you from trying.

Don't EVER run because it's scary.

If it scares you, it means it's WORTH IT.

The gym is the only relationship in your life that you're guaranteed to get from it what you put into it.

We all have a starting point. Just because I happened to start before you, doesn't make me any better than you. I'm not. Too often I hear things like "I want to lift like you, I wish I could squat as much as you, I wish I was as strong as you." My answer: You will be, keep going.
I don't have the physique I have because it was handed to me. It took years of patience, discipline, constant work, and passion. So if you want it, go f*cking get it. No more bull s**t. No more excuses. Go work for what you want and don't stopππ»

My thoughts/advice on joining a gym in 2017:
-
Over the past 15 years I've worked in, managed, owned, or operated over 100 health clubs. 107 if my math is correct.
-
Some of the worlds largest health club chains, franchises, and even some mom n pop gyms.
-
15 years and 107 gyms later this right here was my favorite squat rack. Old school piece of crap rack with old school iron plates. But I loved it. Got the best leg workouts of my life in that old beat up hunk of steel.

My point being, it's not always the newest, biggest, flashiest gym that will get you results. The gym you feel most comfortable at, the gym you feel "at home" at is the gym you'll probably enjoy the most.

For me, it wasn't the 50,000sq foot clubs with pools and courts, it wasn't the gym offering the lowest price, the gym I loved the most was a meager 7,000 sq ft with 20 year old equipment. But it had great members, great staff, and simply felt like home.

A wise man once told me "A gym is a gym. Weights are heavy, pools are wet. It's the same everywhere. It's the staff, fellow members, and the actual experience that make a gym a gym."

Don't just look for the newest, cheapest gym. Find a gym you truly love. Do that, you got a much better chance of seeing results.

In closing, damn I miss that old piece of s**t squat rack.

This has NOTHING to do with fitness

And that's the point

Working out and being healthy is great, and we should all strive for a healthy lifestyle

But it's ok to take a step back sometimes
-
Enjoy life
-
Enjoy relationships
-
Have a beer
-
Have a laugh
-
Then get back in the gym ;)
