The average person takes approximately 10,000 steps per day, or three million steps per year! Examine your feet daily. Use a mirror if necessary to check the bottom of your feet for cracks, peeling, injuries or dry skin. This is especially important for those with diabetes to avoid an infection or a non-healing wound.

and Awareness Month
In Canada, an estimated 3.7 million people have diabetes, and approximately 1 in 5 will develop a foot ulcer, which can lead to limb amputations if left untreated.
We believe that education and awareness are key to promoting better wound care and preventing limb loss. That's why we encourage all Canadians to take steps to prevent wounds and to seek appropriate care if they do develop wounds.
If you or someone you know is living with wounds related to diabetes or peripheral arterial disease, it's important to seek professional care as soon as possible. Wounds Canada can help connect you with healthcare professionals and resources to support you in your community as you move toward your healing journey.

April is Parkinson's Awareness Month, and at Quality FootCare, we recognize the unique challenges faced by those living with Parkinson's Disease, especially when it comes to foot care. Parkinson's Disease, a neurological disorder affecting movement, often leads to foot-related issues like stiffness, difficulty walking, and balance problems. Foot care professionals play a crucial role in providing comfort and mobility through supportive footwear, orthotics, and regular foot health assessments.
In Parkinson's, the loss of muscle control and sensation can increase the risk of foot injuries and complications. Proper foot care can prevent these issues, enhancing quality of life. For footcare professionals, understanding the symptoms and progression of Parkinson's is essential for developing effective care plans tailored to individual needs. This may include managing common symptoms such as freezing gait, where a patient feels their feet are glued to the floor, and ensuring safety and stability during movement.
As we observe Parkinson's Awareness Month, let's commit to educating ourselves and others about the importance of specialized foot care in managing Parkinson's Disease. By offering targeted treatments and support, we can make a significant difference in the lives of those affected. Join us in spreading awareness and providing the care needed to navigate this condition with dignity and confidence.
