A few of my favorites from the closer! No gun in my hands and I had a blast! Will be posting more as I go through them!
Killer finish to the season today. There were hardly any ducks in this field yesterday and we almost slept in. Nasty weather made for an awesome morning and a bunch of widgeon that gave it up and we were able to shoot well! I didn’t hunt Benji but I did bring him out late in the hunt and pick a few up for us. A few bonus cacklers towards the end made it well worth the sit.
I was lucky enough to share the duck blind with my youngest daughter this morning! I don’t know if she thought it was more fun than tik tok, but she definitely enjoyed herself! Happy to pack blind snacks when I get to share them with her!
Start and end of the 5th series. Zoom in on the 2nd photo and check out how she looked! Don’t worry, she had a blast!
First trip after pheasant for the year. Posie put up a bunch of birds but the cover over here offers a ton of challenges when it comes to shooting lanes. Able to put 2 roosters, 4 quail and a duck in the bag.. feels good to be out here!!!!
My original plan was to chase quail for an hour on my way home from work with Posie. Cockers aren’t exactly “chukar” dogs. With Riggs passing away a few days ago, I thought it was only right that we went out and chased what was his favorite bird. Chukar taught Riggs how to be a bird dog, how to handle wild birds and how to hold them for me to get close enough. Chasing quail just didn’t seem like the hunt I should do today.. Posie certainly couldn’t find them as good as Riggs bases on how a setter and cocker cover ground, but she did her best today and we got into some shooting! We all miss you Riggs, this one’s for you buddy!! ❤️❤️
Holy smokes, Happy Birthday Hayden!
It’s always bittersweet watching our kids grow up. You never understand how fast time really moves until you want it to slow down. I love you Hayden!
Circa 200? Inspired by thinking about hunting pre social media where we use to share photos in person on an actual printed copy or digital quality of 180p 😂
Continuing my photo contest with Posie and a big Canada goose! I still remember the very first time and myself shot some big greaters in the middle of a river. I wasn’t sure a dog under 30lbs could go retrieve a 10-13lb goose, but they did it in style. What they lack in size, they make up in heart!
Cockers and greenheads! Didn’t know at the time, but peep the bling!
A cockers first limit of wild roosters!
Happy 4th Birthday to the litter that sucked me into the cocker world forever! Thank you Byron for trusting me with one of these little white puppies 4 years ago! Plenty of good years left chasing wild birds and ribbons with her!
What is Benji thinking?
Always nice to get a few photos of my favorite dog of all time!

Only a few days away for more of this! This season has been on delay for me. Larisa is finishing up her student teaching and I’ve been balancing Dawson, soccer, the girls and work. I’m not complaining, I am spoiled with love from my family… but soccer is over, larisa will have free time and I’m really excited to take off with the dogs and chase some wiley roosters! Where to first…
Benji’s 2nd placeboard training. We added in some commands along with more fun and love!
This dog will forever hold the standard for what I want in a little spaniel! We flushed some quail that were being a bit of a pain to get shots off on. I sent her back into the Russian olives to see if she could possibly get a couple more up that hadn’t flushed fully. I could see her jumping and trying to climb the branches and looking straight up. Soon after the distinct sound of a quail flushed out my way and down it went. These quail were just sitting in the thick brush free of danger… until they met a dog that wanted them to make a mistake.
I took Roxy on her first hunt and she was able to see what real birds are all about! She had 3 speeds..
First speed was balls to the wall for close to an hour which also happens to be the worst time to find birds where we hunted.
Second speed was.. that’s the pace I like to see when we go hunt for a long day. Lasted about 30-45 minutes.
Third and final speed.. this is stupid and I’m tired dad.
I had Posie with us and Roxy enjoyed watching and following her around. Unfortunately Posie did all of the dirty work on this trip but on this particular rooster the two of them were able to be working the bird from different directions and Posie ran it right into Roxy and it flushed nice and tight and I was able to connect. Roxy had a very good view of the fall and I sent her away for it. Can’t wait to get her back out solo and see what she learned after day 1!
I think someone’s going to like fishing! Didn’t take him long to figure out how to dangle the bait for dad to take! better watch out! New fisherman in town!
A woman’s first Mother’s Day! Happy Birthday to my two favorite mothers in the world! Life has blessed me being surrounded by amazing women!
A post I made a year ago. Speaks true to how I still feel! These were a few things I learned about trialing in my first year. Enjoy your dogs everyone!!
As much as I love shooting cackling roosters over these dogs.. it’s a pretty cool sight watching your 27lb cocker retrieve a greater Canada on a nice long retrieve!
Fun training day! Had a new fellow show up with his 8 month old cocker who looked very good! We also had our normal encounter with Mr. Bald Eagle who gave us a little show!
Posie brings home the blue today along with the guns award! Guns award is over the entire trial both springers and cockers. After watching the springers 3rd series, I could make a strong argument for a couple of them but I’ll take it!
If you love dehydrated meals as much as I do, you’re going to love the new launch from
Seven new meals and at the top of that list is the Shepherds Pie for myself! Heather and Brad have never sacrificed an inch when it comes to quality and with this new look and new meals… you can tell they didn’t start by doing it now. Congrats on the growth and additions, now let’s taste these meals!!!
Happy Valentine’s Day my love! Hard to believe 6 years ago we went on our 2nd date.. Look at us now! I love you more than I can ever express!
Probably one of my favorite photos from the 2021/2022 season. This was the 2nd honker we shot on the day and I was sure I’d be going out to grab it as I wasn’t sure how Posie would handle a live goose on land. Well, she saved me a Boss shot shell and the time to go out and grab it! I really can’t wait for more of this next year!
I took the Queen of Hearts “Roxy” out for her first wild bird encounters and it ended in me packing her for a little while. The snow was pretty deep, especially for a cocker. She worked her butt off for 2 1/2 miles of human distance and put up a single hen that she was able to watch fly away! On our break she looked at me with a tired face and may have been a bit overworked because she threw up a little bit of her food. I tossed her in the Final Rise for majority of the walk back and let her relax!
Ruby’s last rooster for the WA season.
