Each week, the students submit reflections on the course content (design, history, professions, methods, etc.). Reflections include an image and text. Often, I have them make an image first and write a reflection on the image-making process. At the end of the semester, the students look closely at their reflections for patterns and complete a final text and visual reflection.
This semester, I asked the students to print their final booklets for the first time. It was a difficult task for a group that's mostly never made books before (they had to export Postscript files in InDesign to print on the DAAP printers, and color copies cost about $9.00 each). Holding on to these in physical form makes me think the hassle was worth it.
