Dear RAA Members and Supporters,

As you all know, Rome was hit by a tornado on July 16th. Downtown took a fair amount of damage, including the Cinema Capitol building. Unfortunately, the roof was severely damaged and our upstairs meeting space took on a good amount of water.

In the following days, a few board members and volunteers preserved most of the items in our office area and moved them to an offsite storage space. The Capitol plans to replace the roof and renovate the building with the help of insurance - but that will not be for a very long time. The board and I will be meeting soon to find a new, potentially temporary, location to host meetings.

Some good news: the Cinema Capitol Gallery and all of the artwork in it is safe. The glass on the gallery doors was blown in but none of the artwork took damage. The downstairs area with the main cinemas took most of the water damage so they will be closed for the foreseeable future. The gallery room did not take on much water damage, but since the cinema is closed so is the gallery. They don’t have any timetable for reopening.

Due to all of this, the Annual Membership Exhibit will be taken down early. We have scheduled a pick-up of the artwork for Saturday, August 3rd at noon. We know this is short notice but it is extremely important that artists pick up their artwork from this show due to the fact that we do not have the storage capabilities onsite to keep artwork for an extended period of time.

Many of our board members and regular members have been dealing with damage to their own homes and property, including myself, so bandwidth is at an all time low. We have decided to postpone our August picnic meeting at Delta Lake to September. This will allow all of us to continue to focus our attention where it is needed most and start our new fiscal year in September with something positive. We will release more information as it gets closer.

Due to the minimal availability of board members and myself, there will be no August version of Brushmarks.

Be well. Speak soon,
Adam Prescott Chrisman
RAA Board President
