Yallahs Basic School, St. Thomas

Every day, staff members and students at the Yallahs Basic School work to exemplify the institution’s motto “Knowledge Giveth Light” St. Thomas’ largest school, which has been operating since 1957, continues to grow. Today, its 167 students have an opportunity to be a part of an environment where technology (including laptops, and radios) has been incorporated into the classroom to enhance the learning experience and there is ease of access to other electronic devices that contribute to efficient functionality.

It is touted as the model school in the area, but maintaining that status, along with eight classrooms, adjoining lit restrooms, a computer room, office spaces, a fully outfitted kitchen and two water tanks with electric pumps comes with high energy bills. Yallahs Basic spends J$150,000 per annum to meet its operational costs. See album for a closer look at the school and how it uses energy.

CAPE has rolled out a modified syllabus for GMED and Technical Drawing. It will no longer be Geometrical Mechanical Engineering Drawing but rather Building Mechanical and Engineering Drawing :-). The CSEC Technical Drawing Syllabus has also had a facelift - safety, disaster preparedness has been added to the modules and some additions to existing modules.
