Safe Delivery Safe Mother
Our aim is to reduce the extremely high rate of Maternal Mortality in Pakistan by addressing its leading cause, Postpartum Haemorrhage (PPH).
We at SDSM are proud to share that our founder won the Development Leadership Award from the Federal Ministry of Planning and Development to celebrate the country’s 75 years of progress. Since we started, our journey has been both rewarding and challenging. We are immensely grateful for this national recognition and aim to keep growing our work with the vision to serve the women of Pakistan.
We are excited to share our latest report on training Skilled Birth Attendants to prevent and treat Postpartum Hemorrhage in the northern Gilgit-Baltistan region. An important aspect of equipping health workers is on addressing cultural and economic constraints which are primary deterrents in rural communities. Take a look at our report and see some of the work we do. Report link in bio ➡️
Our founder Mehreen Shahid was featured in the Public eye of the LUMS Business School Quarterly Magazine issue. As we wrap our flood relief drive, SDSM wants to give a huge shout out to all our partners, supporters, volunteers who have helped us reach over 25 flood-affected districts of Sindh, Balochistan, South Punjab and KPK. We are extremely grateful for the small role we have played to serve pregnant women in need. Together, we can do so much more.
SDSM works in very diverse and low resource communities. We try to make use of existing setups. Here you can see the various places we have setup our health and counselling camps for pregnant women in district Shikarpur.
We particularly enjoyed packing our winter kits with our custom-made baby quilts and clothes. As harsh winter weather approaches, we will continue supporting flood-affected pregnant women who desperately await essential childbirth support. One kit costs PKR. 2300 ($11). This cause is as much yours as is ours, so join us and play your part.
Introducing our winter birthing kits which contain custom-made baby quilts and clothes. These kits cost PKR. 2300 ($11) due to the addition of winter items which are essential for harsh weather across flood-affected areas. Help us reach more pregnant women in need.
Through our work, we are providing life-saving services to women of the remotest flood-affected areas. Pictured here, our team counseling pregnant women of Kot Diji, Thari Mirwah and Faiz Ganj of Khairpur District in Sindh!

One of the highlights of our work is serving diverse communities with different cultural norms and languages. We ensure acceptance and use of our techniques and safe delivery kits through pictorial videos and information pamphlets which we have translated in all provincial languages. As our kits reach remote flood-affected communities, we are proud of the hard work SDSM does to ensure safe births.
Today, our delivery kits were distributed in Hajipur, Rajanpur and Kashmore, Sindh, where midwives and pregnant women of the community were counselled on use through pictorial tools and videos in Seraiki and Sindhi languages. Our community-based approach is the most effective way to create impact and outreach.
SDSM has collaborated with and Fatima Memorial’s medical camp in Rajanpur to counsel and distribute our life-saving delivery kits. Today, pregnant women were given kits in Rojhan Mazari, where the primary healthcare facility (BHU) has been completely destroyed by the floods. Our pictorial video and tools have been translated into Balochi, Sindhi, Seraiki, Pashtoo and Urdu which play a major role in counselling pregnant women and their families and increases community acceptance and use of our safe delivery kits.

When we started the delivery kits drive, we were very daunted by the sheer scale of the catastrophe and whether we would be able to meaningfully support the communities in need. But like they say, it takes a village. And we really do have that, in the form of our partners, donors, individuals and volunteers who have provided us with any and every kind of support. Grateful to get this far and humbly committed to going further. Pakistan, first, always 🙏🏽Lots of love, team SDSM
