Word Association කියන්නේ, කිසියම් භාණ්ඩයක හෝ සේවාකක consumer positioning එක measure කරන්න පාවිච්චි කරන technique එකක්.
උදාහරණයක් හැටියයට, මම ඔබෙන් ඇහුවොත් "Apple iPhone කියද්දී ඔබට මුලින්ම මතක් වෙන වචනේ මොකක්ද?" කියලා, ඔබට කියවෙන වචනය තමයි ඔබේ මනසේ Apple iPhone එකට තියෙන positioning එක. මේ ප්‍රශ්නය ප්‍රමාණවත් සාම්පලයකින් ඇහුවොත්, අපිට පුළුවන් මුළු market segment එකකම positioning එක measure කරන්න.
එහෙම measure වෙන positioning එක, ඔබේ desired brand positioning එකට match වෙනවා නම්, ඒ කියන්න ඔබ ඔබේ marketing job එක හරියටම කරලා තියෙනවා.
එහෙම match වෙන්නේ නැත්නම්, ඒකෙන් පෙන්නේ ඔබේ marketing efforts failed කියන එක හෝ, ඔබේ තරගකරුවා ඔබටත් නොදැනීම ඔබේ brand එක වෙන විදියකට reposition කරලා කියලා කියන එක.
