It’s been a bit quiet in the Puka Dottie HQs because I’ve been soaking up all the ❤️❤️❤️ from my chichidangos (granddaughters).

🌺 I have some new news which I have been contemplating for quite sometime. I have decided to offer my Puka Dottie handmade goods at local craft fairs only. This was a difficult decision because I have lots of favorites. But I came upon this cutie which was a custom order by a friend. She wanted a drawstring bag and a matching doggie p**p bag holder made with this cuuute doggie print fabric. She also wanted a splash of orange polka dot fabric to add fun and color to the bags and lo and behold I had the perfect match in my fabric stash.

For me “The Purple Thang” is my favorite tool. It’s a must have for me. I love it so much, I have a few and keep it by each sewing machine. It’s a thang used to help push the fabric through the pressor foot. Such a small and simple tool with huge rewards 🤩.

etc are kept in the adjoining room. Buuut I do share the adjoining room with hubby. It’s a catch all room for both of us 😃

We are located on the Island of O’ahu, one of the eight islands of Hawai’i in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. So “lucky we live Hawai’i” that we can enjoy warm sunshine, trade winds and rainbows all year round. Surfing, paddle boarding, hiking, chilling on sandy beaches or just hanging out with family and friends to “talk story” are just a few things us locals like to do. Cheeehooo 🤙🏾

I’m Mary the owner and maker behind Puka Dottie. I simply enjoy creating fabric treasures from bags, to home decors to little girls clothes and anything in between.

I started this little business in 2017 - a few years before retirement to help me transition into retirement life. It was the best decision I’ve made since. Sewing and creating is therapeutic for me. I can immerse myself in my craft for hours and feel like I’ve accomplished a lot. Creating fabric treasures and having someone purchase my goods is such a happy feeling.

A fun fact about me is I’m a part time water aerobics instructor. I enjoy aqua fitness and if I’m not sewing then I’m usually swimming or doing some kind of water exercises.

My year in review 2023. Overall it’s been a crazy, wild ride with most of my time being occupied with everything and anything other than my business. But it’s okay, I’ve enjoyed every minute.

Of course you can never have too many reusable bags. Right 😉. If you’re like me, I like pretty and bright prints for my bags and not to mention - machine washable. These are the fold over reusable bags. Simply because you just fold the bag and tuck it into the pocket. 😃. When I initially designed this bag, I didn’t realize the extensive work involved. Lots of cutting, bindings and sewing. It was exhausting and I’ve had my doubts. But I persevered and now embrace the challenge of creating the ‘’Ohi Tote Bag. Each bag is created with intentional creativity. The outcome, I think, is lovely.

Remember that little project I’ve been working on …… the one that I shared in my stories……

Well here she is the Patchwork ‘Ohi Totebag. It’s made with remnants of my favorite fabrics (okay yes, they are all my favorite fabrics 😉). This style does take a little longer to complete but I must say it sure is worth it.
