It's a really lovely programme, pairing English folksong (Sweet Lavender) with Renaissance polyphony (Palestrina Dilectus meus, from the Song of Songs) - and much more! - and with words about gardens from the likes of Francis Bacon, George Herbert and Andrew Marvell, all read by our narrator Zeb Soanes (presenter of Smooth Classics at Seven on Classic FM). We have given this programme on several memorably lovely summer evenings in beautiful English churches.

The concert is being presented in association with Grape Britannia, of Cambridge -

OPUS ANGLICANUM SPRING CONCERTS 2023

A heads-up for any of you who are in the Oxford and Cambridge areas. We do hope you might be able to join the group next month in one - or both - of the cities to share the Adorna experience that has already delighted listeners in Wells, St Martin-in-the-Fields and more.

Jazz star Jason Rebello meets classical a ca****la experts Opus Anglicanum in a striking collaboration: Adorna. Sublime, ancient Gregorian chant for the midwinter feast of Candlemas comes to new life when the spontaneous improvised piano of Jason Rebello joins the mix.
Candlemas is the winter day on which all the Church’s candles for the year were blessed, and a festival of the first stirring of spring. In this concert, the ancient monastic chants, as sung annually over the centuries in cathedrals and abbeys to mark Candlemas, blend with Jason’s piano – a magical new interpretation of light dispelling darkness.
The pictures show recent Adorna venues, Wells Cathedral and St Martin-in-the-Fields.
