Calling all Maine classroom teachers interested in seaweed! As you kickoff your year, maybe you've wondered about new ways to engage students with topics related to environment and climate. Have you considered SEAWEED? It's fascinating, it's delicious, and it's part of ecosystems and industry right here on the Maine coast!

The Maine Aquaculture Innovation Center and partners would like to help introduce you to the world of seaweed and seaweed aquaculture at our SEAWEED EDUCATORS' WORKSHOP 2.0 this October! At this workshop, we will demonstrate hands on seaweed activities for students and present our Kelp Curriculum that can be used in the classroom. Interested educators are encouraged to register for the workshop today!

When: Friday October 4th from 8:30 to 3:30

MAIC is proud to congratulate the 2024 winners of the Phyllis Wyeth Visionary Award for Excellence in Marine Science and Trades: Anne Langston Noll and Sara Rademaker!

Anne is the Associate Director of MAIC and has participated in critical workforce development initiatives for aquaculture across Maine as well as other research and education project. Sara is the founder of American Unagi, America's only eel farm which got it's start in the joint MAIC/UMaine business incubator spaces at the Darling Marine Center and the Center for Cooperative Aquaculture Research.

MAIC would also like to congratulate other award nominees, all of whom are doing important work across the state and many of whom are involved in aquaculture! We appreciate you, Jaclyn Robidoux, Dana Morse, Toni Small, Monique Coombes, Suzie Arnold, and Kate Stookey!

The technician will help the hatchery managers with the operation of two conservation hatcheries that rear Atlantic salmon. The role includes hands-on-work with fish, equipment maintenance, and data recording.
