We are the premier ballroom dance association at Binghamton University, with both a club and a team! It's a lifelong skill, so come out and dance! SA chartered.
We are the premier ballroom dance team at Binghamton University. Our goal is to introduce the world of ballroom dancing to the Binghamton community. Bearcats Dancesport represents Binghamton University at regional and national ballroom dance competitions at the intercollegiate and amateur levels. In addition, we provide instructional classes, host social dances, perform showcases, and prepare Binghamton dancers for social and competitive dance.
BBDA welcomes all university and community members to a fun night of social dancing from 6-7:30PM this Wednesday, 4/17! You’ll get to mingle with other ballroom-lovers and pick up some cool new moves from our team members. No dance experience or partner necessary and admission is FREE!

The cha cha is a Cuban dance that evolved from mambo in the 1950s, named after the way cha cha dancers’ feet shuffle on the floor. This dance is playful and exuberant, characterized by sharp movements and hip action. There are a number of different music genres full of cha chas; you can do this dance to many of today’s popular upbeat songs!

The Viennese waltz was the very first ballroom dance! Today’s modern slow waltz is descended from it. This classic dance is characterized by its unique 3-count and controlled, graceful spinning.
The Binghamton Ballroom Dance Association is hosting their annual performance event, Dancing with the Orgs on April 14th at 6pm in Old Union Hall. Based off of the popular TV show Dancing with the Starts, DWTO pairs ballroom team dancers with representatives from various organizations on campus ( .ldc ) and pits them against each other in an exciting competition! Spectators can purchase tickets between 12-4pm on 4/8 and 4/12 in the Tillman Lobby, or at the door for $1. We hope to see you all there!

The quickstep is a closed-frame dance that combines foxtrot and Charleston elements. It’s characterized by a mix of elegance and high energy! You can find plenty of quickstep tunes among jazz and swing hits from the early twentieth century.

Samba’s roots are in Rio de Janeiro and was popularized by this city’s famous carnival. This lively dance is known for its bouncing action and syncopated rhythms. Samba songs can be found in many different genres of music!
BBDA is excited to announce that we are once again holding our annual spring competition! Dancers from various universities will be competing in the four ballroom dance styles: smooth, standard, rhythm, and Latin! Registration is open now on O2CM!

The ballroom version of tango evolved from the Argentine tango danced in the slums of 1880s Argentina and Uruguay. This classic ballroom dance is characterized by sharp, almost stealthy movements and a sense of passion and drama! Tango music typically features staccato rhythms, violin, guitar, and bandoneón (a cousin of the accordion)

Modern salsa dancing and salsa music emerged in Cuba in the 1920s, having evolved from earlier Cuban dance forms. Today, salsa is a social dance known for its rapid spins and turns and showy tricks. Salsa music is heavy on brass, piano, and percussion.

One of the early 20th-century US dance crazes revolved around the foxtrot. This graceful dance with ragtime origins is characterized by slow, smooth walk-like movements across the floor. As foxtrot music was originally played by big bands, the most representative foxtrot songs embody the jazz sound of the 20s and 30s.
