Skaana
A podcast about oceans, eco-ethics and the environment featuring guests like David Suzuki, Erich Hoyt, Elizabeth May and Paul Watson. http://skaana.org/
I was lucky enough to interview Paul F Watson for Skaana not long before his mission to Greenland. The revival of the bogus red notice - something reserved for the world's most notorious criminals - is horrifying. For information on how to support him please check out the Captain Paul Watson Foundation or Captain Paul Watson Foundation UK or Neptune's Pirates or the link above where his wife Yana Watson is sharing th latest on his status. And to find out more about why I support him and why I was so happy he was back on the waters, please check out our most recent conversation🐳

Sixty years ago today… The young southern resident orca who became known as "Moby Doll" was accidentally captured by the Vancouver Aquarium when they were on a mission to harpoon and kill a killer whale as a model for an accurate life-sized sculpture. Yep, the harpooning happened. But it wasn’t fatal. Neither were all the gunshots. The rest is history… and my book, CBC radio documentary and… soon… feature documentary.

So thrilled that Skaana guest Alessandro De Maddalena finally received his copy of Sharks Forever!
I recently received a copy of my friend Mark Leiren-Young's book, "Sharks Forever. The Mystery and History of the Planet's Perfect Predator." In this beautiful book the author explores the world of sharks, their biology, behaviour, habitat, and more. The book also covers the biggest threats to the existence of these marine predators, including pollution, overfishing, finning and bycatch. The text is extremely clear and easy to understand for every type of reader. The publication is completed by many beautiful images by many different photographers, and it is an honor for me that Mark chose to include several of my photos too. The foreword is by Captain Paul Watson. Obviously this book is strongly recommended.

Wanna brainstorm? My octopus book needs a title. It was Octopus Planet and now it is... the unnamed octopus project. It's the third in my unofficial trilogy about marine life for Orca Book Publishers following up Orcas Everywhere: The Mystery and Mystery of Killer Whales & Sharks Forever: The Mystery and History of the Planet's Perfect Predator... I'm also looking for a subtitle that breaks the mystery/history vein and does a bit more to pop on search engines. Ideally I'd like a title that's Octopus plus one word like the others _______ - but open to breaking that mold - and a subtitle that gets across how freaking awesome octopus are. They are impossibly smart and while they're really not aliens they are kind of as we get to alien intelligence on earth. Like one subtitle we've been playing with is "The Superpowers of Cephalopods." I'll start sharing some examples down below as they pop and I suspect my editor and publisher will be watching this space to see what you come up with. All ideas - even silly ones - beyond welcome. Silly can spark great ideas... I rarely love the titles of my work (the titles of some of my most successful stuff still makes me cringe). I love Orcas Everywhere and Sharks Forever and thought Octopus Planet... would do... It'd be great to come up with a title for this that I love and, more importantly, will attract lots of readers to learn about one of the most amazing earthlings... The octopus pictured below - Storm - is who I hung out with for inspiration as I wrote...
